I stand by my bags in the hospital lobby,
waiting for ann'e to finish at the reception desk.

The weather's warmed up and
a shuddering s i g h of contentment
pushes its way past my lips.

Finally.

My heart doesn't feel like frozen gunmetal,
my lungs don't feel like molten gold.
And the air might still smell like rain,
but the leaves outside are bright and a l i v e.

I look at my reflection in the automatic glass doors

and my lips quirk into an uncertain smile.

"Finally," I think,

"no one can take this away from me."
