The one who had always stood beside you.

But now... where was he?

You looked around the ballroom, but couldn't find him. Where would he go?

Then you remembered the tower.

You ran out of the ballroom and up the steps of the tower, your legs and lungs burning from the exercise. Reaching the top, you found Taehyung leaning over the side of the castle wall, rubbing his hands together as he looked at the kingdom lights. The soft glow of the lights below highlighted the strong features of his face.

You wanted to know what he was thinking. What he was feeling. What he thought about you. All these questions got caught in your throat. You couldn't do anything but slide up behind him and wrap your arms around his waist. You leaned on his back.

He shifted a little. "Princess? Is everything all right?"

You broke your grip on him as he turned to look at you. Those same puppy dog eyes that greeted you the first day you arrived made you feel warm and safe. You were always safe with Taehyung.

"Taehyung? What would happen to you if I decide to become a princess?"

He smiled, but there was a hollowness in it. "I would stay here as their Majesties' assistant. You would have plenty of assistants in your own kingdom."

"I don't want more assistants." you said. "I want to stay with you."

He ruffled your hair. "I wish I could stay with you too."

"What if I gave up being a princess?"

"Why would you do that?"

"Because I want to stay with you."

His eyes changed, realizing what you were trying to say. He went quiet for a moment, then looked away. You held your breath as he frowned.

"You can't give this up for me, [Y/N]." he said.

"Why not?"

"You've worked so hard..."

"I've been a princess for three months. It's not like I have a lot invested in this. I thought about it for a long time, Taehyung. I know what I want. I want you."

He pulled in a long breath.

You put your hands on his waist, looking up into his eyes. "Do you want me?"

He exhaled. His eyes swept from your lips to your neck, then he turned away. He gently grabbed your shoulders and tried to push you off, but your hands gripped tighter to the fabric of his shirt.

"Taehyung... Do you want me?" you asked again.

He stared at your lips again for a moment, then raised his eyes to yours. You stopped breathing.

"Yes," he whispered.

You weren't sure if you were relieved or more nervous. Your heart was pounding out of your chest. You looked down at his lips and leaned in.

He stopped you.

"Princess," he said. "You can't. We can't."

"Why not?"

He dipped his head down, brushing his nose against your cheek. "I... I'm afraid if we do... I won't be able to stop."

You inched in closer, feeling his breath on your lips. "Then don't."

His lips brushed yours and he paused, waiting to see if you would retract. You didn't. His arms snaked around your shoulders, bringing you into his embrace. He gently kissed you. Once. Twice. His kisses suddenly doubled in intensity, as if it had been killing him to hold back. Holding you tight to his chest, he continued to kiss you, each kiss more intense than the last. He wasn't kidding. He couldn't stop himself from kissing you over and over again.

After awhile, you put your hands on his chest, signaling that you needed a moment to breathe. He pulled back, giving a breathy laugh.

"I'm sorry," he said in a low voice. "But I did warn you."

He leaned in and placed a single kiss under your ear, his warm arms still around you. You put your hands around his back, laying your head against his chest. His heart was pounding as hard as yours.

"You're sure about this?" he asked.

"More than anything. You're the one I fell for."

His arms squeezed you tight. "What to do... I think I've fallen for you too."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night you announced that you would not be taking the throne. Everyone was shocked, of course, not knowing why you would give up such a wonderful opportunity. You continued saying that you felt more adjusted to civilian life, and that your people would be best left in the care of someone else. Your father wasn't particularly happy about your decision, but when he saw the way you and Taehyung looked at each other, he caught on. He couldn't even be mad at you for it – it was his fault you two met in the first place!
You forgave Jin, and the bad blood between you dissolved. Eventually, he met a royal woman that intrigued him. Thanks to you, he was more willing to open his heart up. They were married, and she showered him with love and affection on the daily basis.
Namjoon finally realized how much he loved his girl, and he went after her like you had told him to. He renounced his station and married her, enjoying a romantic civilian life. Jin invited both of them to the castle often as guests.
Jimin and Nara married. At first, they had a rocky relationship that Jungkook constantly butted into. Jimin became competitive at Jungkook trying to take his wife, and eventually couldn't stand the thought of her with anyone else. He treated her better from then on, and they eventually fell in love completely.
While trying to sabotage Jimin, Jungkook met Nara's cousin, who kept running interference for Jimin and Nara. In the beginning, Jungkook was constantly trying to outwit her, but she outsmarted him every time. Eventually he got so determined to beat her that he got obsessive about her. After some time, that obsession turned into romantic feelings, and he ended up marrying her.
Hoseok took the job at the private academy and ended up marrying an instructor from a rival school. You saw him occasionally for special events. He was much happier than he had been when you first met, and you could tell that he was becoming that fun character everyone had known him as.
Yoongi was cleansed of his crimes and he rejoined Hoseok. Turns out the "exciting life" he wanted was the one he already had. He loved travelling the world and torturing Hoseok. He didn't marry, but he did put Jimin to shame on the number of women he wooed in every city he visited.
You and Taehyung eventually married, and had your own room in Jin's castle. He was still their attendant, after all. Everyone agreed that you two made the perfect couple, and was happy to see someone take care of Taehyung for a change. With your language skills, you were able to become a translator, and helped with a lot of tasks around the castle. It was the best of both worlds – spending time with the people you cared about, and being the wife of the man you loved.
