He was to die for. Not many men can pull off the slicked back look, but he can. He pulls it off real good. I know I probably sound like a complete weirdo, but these are my normal thoughts. I mean who wouldn't think that way about the Matt Dillon?
Matt was the most popular boy in our grade. He played almost every sport under the sun and everybody loved him. I hated the fact I was one of those people. I feel like I shouldn't love him. He doesn't deserve my attention. He never even once blinked my way. Minus the time he was forced to hand out paper for Ms. Graham in English last year, but that doesn't count! He was a jerk that got everything he wanted. Ughhhh! Why do I like him?
It was almost summer with everyone boiling up in the heat of June while still being stuck in a desk for about 15 more days. Right now I was headed towards the cafeteria to meet my friend Sue Ellen at our usual table. And just like I thought, she was already there, opening up a bag of m&ms without me.
"Couldn't wait could you? You know they're my favorite." I glared at her with a smile.
"Hey don't you give me that look. My idiot brother left without me this morning, so I had to rush for the bus with no breakfast." She pointed back. I love her savagery.
"Whatever, just give me all the green ones." I held out my hand.
"But y/n, they're all the sam-" she started till I cut her off.
"Don't say it. Last time my cousin said that to me, I locked him up in my basement to survive on only pop tarts. Stay one of the lucky ones." I tried to be serious. We both ended up dying of laughter. But I'm serious though. My cousin Ronny is still terrified of my basement.
"Oh my gosh, y/n. Don't look now but I think Matt Dillon was just looking at you." She hid while peeking over my shoulder to see him again.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah him and his merry men were ogling at us, sure." I said dripping with sarcasm. "Van Halen would have a concert just for this school before Matt would even think about me."
"Well I better go get my Hot for Teacher shirt then because he's on his way over." She said getting up.
"Don't you dare leav-" I started to say before she bolted out. All of a sudden, I felt a presence next to me. I look over and see Matt. At first he was looking away, then he started staring at me.
"If you are here on a dare or a bet, you can turn around right now." I say, going back to eating my lunch. I just wanted him to leave.
"Nah neither actually. I'm just here because I've never talked to you before. I've talked to almost every girl in this school so far, so I wanted something different." He smirked.
I scoffed. "Do you know how much of a jerk you sound like right now?" I got up and looked down at him. "Gosh, I'm so stupid for being like everyone else. My heart tells me you are a nice, cute guy. But my brain tells me to run because you are an awful person. I'm not just one of your new little toys Matt, so you can stick your something different right where the sun don't shine." And with that, I poured my Sprite all over him. He looked shocked but instead of sticking around for his reaction, I ran off in search for Sue Ellen to yell at her for leaving me.
Luckily I found Sue Ellen in the girls bathroom fixing her makeup. "Hey y/n, how was Matt?" She asked wiggling her eyebrows.
I gave her the death glare. "You left me with that jerk that I was right about. He only wanted me as a new girl to sleep with so I showed him by wasting my entire can of Sprite."
She laughed, almost falling over. "You did what?" She couldn't even finish her thought she was laughing so hard.
"It's not that funny. He's a creep." I crossed my arms.
"Yeah a creep who's now in love with you." She joked. "Hey I gotta go to Bio or Mr. Koll will give me a detention since this is my last warning. You are so lucky you have art next period and your teacher doesn't care if you're late." She rolled her eyes and left me again. What's up with her and leaving me today?
I was thankful I was alone until I heard the bathroom door open then lock. I was expecting it to be a girl who came in here to cry or something since that would be the only logical reason to locking the door, but I couldn't be farther from the truth. There, walking towards me, was a sopping wet Matt Dillon with a hard glare upon his face. Scratch that, why is Sue Ellen always leaving me today with Matt Dillon?
"Wrong room dude, last time I checked you don't use the girls room, you just use the girls in it." I looked away from him towards the mirror.
He grabbed my arm and twisted me towards him. I was coming up with many scenarios in my head of what he would do next. They all ended with me dead on the floor.
But instead, he kissed me. At first I didn't kiss him back, but after a few seconds, I did for some reason. Damn my heart.
He pulled away. "Don't think you are a toy to me. I've noticed you y/n. I've noticed the way you pop your foot up when you shoot a basketball in gym. I've noticed the way you sometimes hold and kiss your heart locket like you lock your dreams in it. I've noticed the way you slide your pencil behind your ear when you can't think of an answer in math. I've noticed you. And you aren't like the other girls I've met. You are different, in a good way. And the fact that you just proved that by standing up to me in the cafeteria just makes you even more perfect, seeing as no one has ever done that to me before."
I was shocked. I didn't know what to say. I started to think about what he said. I didn't even notice my foot pops in gym. I do slide my pencil behind my ear often. My heart locket contains a picture of my grandma and I do keep my wishes with her! He's not a jerk after all. He actually notices me.
"You probably still think I'm a jerk, but I just-" I cut him off by kissing him. I unfortunately had to cut the kiss short.
"First, you need to clean off because you are so sticky and there's Sprite dripping on my head. Second,... that was the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I can't believe you actually noticed these little things, but that's what makes them sweeter." I smiled up at him.
"I would kiss you right now, but you said I'm too sticky." He laughed.
I rolled my eyes and pulled him in for a long and passionate kiss.
"Well okay then." He smirked and laughed in response. "So I guess this is the part where I ask you on a date?" He gazed into my eyes while kissing my hand.
I giggled. "I guess so."
"Will you, pretty please with a cherry on top, be my beautiful companion on a date tonight?" He asked.
I smiled with him. "I'd love to."
And with that we kissed again. I got used to the fact I was now covered in soda too and that we'd both be sticky for the rest of the day. The best part... it didn't bother me one bit.
