AXEL
Fifteen minutes earlier
I sprinted out of the apartment.
I nearly rammed into a silver car in my haste to escape the driveway. Then I was speeding down the street, driving too fast to be legal. I pulled up at the school in five minutes instead of ten.
A minute later I was pacing in the classroom where Violet and I first met, mentally rehearsing what I was going to say.
I'd gone over at least ten different speeches when the door finally swung open.
Violet slipped inside.
Her eyes met mine, and I knew no amount of preparation would work.
Now or never.
"I love you."
