For anyone who may not know, what's about to occur below is what happens during a real murder trial, and slight altercations may have been made to make this chapter easier to understand for the readers.
Will's POV
"All rise." The bailiff said. "Department Three of the Central Criminal Court is now in session. Judge Alina presiding. Please be seated."
Finally. The day for a second trial came to me, a second chance at life, a way to run from this corrupt system. I knew it would only be the beginning of a possible recovery, but I wouldn't care if it took nineteen hours in a court room non-stop. The basic start to a court case was boring as fuck, but I didn't really give a damn anymore, since I used to sit through hours and days of homicide court files cases. Not fun. After the regular, and terribly familiar procedure, the court session was underway, and as of this moment, my new lawyer, also known as the public defender, was currently stating how he was willing to defend me.
"The prosecution may call its first witness," the Judge nodded with approval in her voice.
"The People call the main witness of the killer," the Deputy District Attorney called out.
Bailiff took Alan to the witness stand, and both exchanged awkward smiles before the Clerk came to stand before the twelve year old lad, holding a book, a book that Alan had to place his left hand on while his other was in the air. Last time he did this, his story had faltered due to the horrid circumstances he was put under, being threatened by Prosecutor Smart, but also the fact that he was sexually assaulted and raped by The Nightmare. He and I looked into each other's eyes, feeling ourselves nod on the inside as the Clerk began to recite the oath. This was something I had to deal with one too many times, with criminals lying with great persuasion to make the jurors believe them.
"Please stand. Raise your right hand," the middle aged man instructed. "Do you promise that the testimony you shall give in the case before this court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?"
"I do," Alan said boldly, nodding at the same time before the Clerk asked him to state his full name, finally allowing the young witness to be seated in the stand. Then, a female reporter requested for Alan to spell out his last name for the record.
"Where do you live?"
"348 Brook Street," he softly replied to the question.
"Were you on Brook Street during the night of Detective Isaac Ross's murder?"
"Yes."
"Did you see The Nightmare on Thursday, March 13th, 2014?"
"I did."
"And what they look like?"
"Well...it was a woman, and when she passed by the first time, she had long blonde hair, it was almost golden in colour actually. I remember her wearing those over-sized plaid dress shirts, on top of a plain white t-shirt. Her jeans were light blue, with long, horizontal rips in the knee area on her left leg, with black Converse shoes," Alan explained. "But...when she came back, everything was the same minus the blood that was on her clothes, except...her hair. It wasn't blonde when she walked past the second time, it was...black," he slightly trembled.
"Did you see or hear anything before or after the murder was carried out?" the Clerk adjusted his spectacles.
"I saw her carrying a gun in her holster and a large backpack...she walked down the street, past my house and...s-she saw me," Alan stuttered, gulping as he shifted his seating position.
"I could see her face, but only her mouth was visible...a-and she was smiling at me...in an unsettling way, then she walked away. That was the last I saw of her until twenty minutes later, after I heard six pops. It was quiet again...but then she walked past my house another time, and she was covered in b-blood, and there was so much, it was covering every piece of clothing again," Alan explained to the last detail. Phew. Just like the day after, when he told it to Dan and I.
