Alicia's POV

"Alicia!!! I heard about Charlie!!!" Kyle screamed into my ear. My god...

"Yes," I gritted my teeth in annoyance.

"IS HE DEAD???" Morgan jumped into the phone conversation.

"Of course not, you dumbasses," I rolled my eyes as Dan gave me a weirded out look.

"Kyle and Morgan," I mouthed to him.

"Ohhh," he realized. "Okay then," he did the infamous thumbs up.

     "Alicia? You still there?"

"Yeah," I said with boredom. I'm kinda glad they called...

     "So...any clue on The Nightmare?"

     "No," I heavily sighed.

     "Is Charlie awake?"

"Erm..." I looked at the breathing body that laid neatly on the bed. He was under heavy drugs that aided in the emergency surgery. Charlie hasn't come to during the past few hours, which was concerning slightly, but not to the extent that I had to anxious wait for a nurse to come by to check on the sleeping detective. The chest shot was quite close to the heart, but upon closer examination, I noticed that it barely missed one of the vital parts. Thank fuck. Dan had scared the shit out of me when he said it was a heart shot, and after the doctor confirmed it wasn't, oh boy...did he get a beating out of me. I could still see the small purple blemish poorly hidden under Dan's white short sleeve, and that was just from a weak punch of mine.

"Pst!" Alicia!" the detective nudged me slightly in the shoulder. "Look!" he pointed the white bed.

"Charlie!" I gasped at his weak and pale eyes. The royal blue hue was diluted to a sky blue, a sign of his weakness from the wound.

"I'll get a nurse," Dan hastily pressed the red button.

"W-where is she?" my mate asked weakly.

     "Hannah?"

     "Yeah," he nodded almost unnoticeably.

"Got away from the airport," Dan angrily mumbled to his partner. "It's all my fucking fault. Should've seen through her disguise."

"Dude! Stop blaming it on yourself!" I flicked Dan in the head as three nurses stormed into the room with a bunch of gear.

"But it-" we looked down at a faint light in Dan's shorts pocket. "Hello?" he put the iPhone on speaker.

"Dan, Alicia, we've got three bodies down here, Portage Park," Crystal informed. "And you might want to come down here quickly, 'cause there's a survivor of the shooting."

     "Really? A shooting?" I asked.

"Yeah, and there's a young guy down here, so hurry the hell up!"

"Okay, okay!" Dan rolled his eyes as he pressed the red end button. "Let's go," he picked up his backpack, tugging the handle of his luggage. "Riki said that she got her F. B. I. friends to send us a rental car, and it's the red Chevrolet Acadia out in the parking lot, with the plate number 291 EWP," he read out a text from a few hours ago. "Crystal texted me saying that her stuff is in the trunk of the car already."

"Ah, okay," I nodded, picking up my stuff as well, giving one more look at Charlie. "Charles, we're going to a crime scene, so...see ya later, I guess."
