DISCLAIMER: I only own Lieutenant Lila Yale and my own twist on Del Toro's amazing story! Thanksies!!

“Lila, you can‘t let him get back in a Jaeger!” I nodded my head, which I held in my hands.

“I know, Mako.” I sighed, running my hands through my now free curls and looking up at my injured friend.

She had cracked her femur clean in half with several hairline fractures from the hard blow of the metal. She was lucky it hadn’t cut her leg off. Mako was propped up in one of the beds in Medical, moving around nervously. The pain meds had finally worked through her system and I knew that she probably couldn’t even feel her fingers.

“What are you doing?” I asked suddenly when she nearly fell from the bed, effectively unhooking herself from the IV’s.

“Getting out of this bed. I need to see the Marshal.” She huffed, holding herself completely still as she tried to right herself. The sudden movement had probably left her dizzy.

“Mako, just rela-” I had risen from my chair, reaching for her so she wouldn’t fall on her face.

“Do not tell me to relax when my only family is trying to get himself killed!” Her shrill comment sent me aback slightly, blinking at her in shock. “Either help me by getting me those crutches or leave and I’ll do it myself.”

I shook my head, facing away from her to grab her crutches and to hide the grin on my face. The last thing she needed was to see that I approved of her standing up for herself.

“When have I ever walked out on you, Mako?” I sighed, handing her the crutches and helping her stand on weak knees. She had a big smile on her face. I nodded at her, smiling as well. “Exactly.” I stated, opening the door not far from her bed.

“Come on; He’s probably on deck by now.” I let her get her arms in a comfortable position before we set off toward the deck area.

She tried to take strong, powerful strides before her arms and shoulders started to get tired and we had to slow down. There was even a small sheen of sweat on her forehead due to the exertion. Walking with crutches was no easy task.

“Marshal!” I was paying too much attention to Mako’s condition to notice who she was calling to until she yelled loudly.

“Mako, you should be resting.” I met Pentecost’s gaze as he look at Mako with a surprisingly soft gaze. It was shocking to see him so calm and not all up-tight.

“Getting back in that Jaeger will kill you.” Mako said with anger and fear obvious in her voice as the Marshal walked off a few steps to give him and his adoptive daughter some space to talk.

Raleigh, Tendo, Herc, and Chuck were all standing where Pentecost had just been and I walked beside Raleigh, feeling him lean down and press his lips to the top of my head. Looking up at him, I grabbed his hand closest to me, giving it a squeeze.

“Are any of us gonna make it out of this alive, Rals?” I asked but he didn’t reply to me, just looked down at me and gave my forehead a tender kiss.

I closed my eyes, leaning into his comfort as I let out a deep sigh. Just as I was about to pull away, people started gathering around us and I looked to see that Pentecost was standing on a piece of discarded Jaeger tech. We both looked up at him, watching him closely.
