Standing up in front of a mass of people was nerve racking. I looked out at my Mum and her wonderful partner Julie. She sat holding my mom in one of the first rows as she grew teary eyed. Next to them a few rows behind was Chris and PJ. Who in fact were making love eyes at each other rather than paying attention, but I really couldn't bring myself to mind.
Phil was never close to his parents, and when Phil stopped studying every minute of the hour his 4.0 gpa decline ever so slightly, which only caused them to grow apart even more. Yet no matter how crude they were when it came to schooling, they always tried to put their best foot forward for Phil. I couldn't be more thankful as I look out and see them in the crowd as well looking dapper as always, but they had smiles on their faces which made all the difference.
I looked up to Phil as he finished his vow. The tears of joy and love in my eyes were clear. Rather than writing our vows down we decided to just go with the flow cause realistically we couldn't ever be completely serious. "No matter how old we are, no matter if you're sick and I have to take care of you," I paused not being able to contain at least a smile, "no matter what we go through I just want you to know that you'll always come out on top Phil." I had to take a moment to compose myself. I looked up to Phil, his eyes had gone wide and he had turned his head away from the crowd slightly to successfully muffle his laughter. I couldn't contain it, I let go. My laugh was loud and obnoxious, but I couldn't be bothered to care. "By that I mean you'll always be my top priority." I winked at him. Knowing what I had meant.
The pastors face was flushed and without any extra time he carried on. "By the power of your love and commitment, and the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and well husband! You may kiss one another!"
We quickly leaned in brushing our lips for a few seconds before resting our foreheads together catching our breaths. "I love you more than anything, Phil." I whispered to him.
"To the moon and back?" He giggled knowing we were thinking the same.
"I love you so much more than just to the moon and back." We met each others eyes. Full of love, compassion and happiness. This was the beginning of a new chapter. For once in my life I thought, maybe somewhere along the way I did something right.
