NIALL'S POV

Zayn was fast asleep, while I was here, creepily sitting on the ledge of his rooftop. I had a thing for rooftops. They were so eerie and peaceful, great for solitude. And I was a creepy ghost this was my place of solitude every night. I don't sleel if you haven't gathered that already.

My mind was still running over what just happened a few hours ago. I has managed to discover yet another one of my abilities oh so suddenly. Zayn told me he loves me. And I believe him, with all my heart as cheesy as it sounds. I know he wants to help he, he is so damn selfless. He wants me to be happy, not caring that he'll get hurt.

But I understand. It's his job. And he's also doing this out of love. The least I can do is comply.

"Yes, you're right about that."

Who else would it be? I turned my head towards where a gentle breeze had blown and smiled at Molly, who was frowning.

"What's wrong?"

Molly took a seat beside me, and tentatively placed a comforting hand on my knee. "Listen to me Niall. Zayn is right. Don't let your mind wander, thinking about loopholes. You both love each other, that's fine. But as long as you keep the consequences in sight as well. And also," Molly said sternly when I was about to interrupt, "Don't think about staying here Niall. It's your purpose to cross over. Staying in limbo is not healthy, especially for so long. Just curb your wild theories." I had never witnessed Molly so agitated.

I sighed heavily and ran a hand through my hair. She was right about everything. "I know, Molly. You're right. But I can't help but think. Why am I developing my abilities? Maybe it's-"

"No Niall. You are not turning human," Molly shot me down. Her tone was soft but it still had the desired effect, it shut me up.

"Your abilities as a ghost are bound to develop. Maybe it means you'll have to stay here longer, but you can't turn human. I'm sorry but that's not possible," she shrugged sadly, and I nodded. But it felt like I had been drenched in ice cold water. I had a tiny sliver of hope, and it too had faded now.

"Now the only hope is for me to cross over, or keep haunting this city?" I asked rhetorically, but Molly still nodded.

"I'm sorry Niall." She patted my knee, and I laughed humorlessly, rolling my eyes.

"I have a few questions though," Molly spoke after a few minutes of silence, apart from the slight rustle of the summer wind. I quirked an eyebrow.

"Do you remember your Reaper?"

"I thought you knew this stuff?" I asked.

Molly shook her head as she sighed in irritation. "I don't know about this. That's why I'm asking you. Reapers usually take the soul with them after extracting, but sometimes they leave it behind because the person's unwilling. But they always come to collect it afterwards. Dad had also pulled out the possibility of a rogue Reaper on your case. That's why I'm asking."

"Oh. Well, um. That didn't happen to me. The Reaper had arrived literally right after the pain had disappeared and I had seen the famous white light. He was in a dark cloak. He just told me I was a difficult one and left, didn't take my soul or anything. Guess was in a hurry," I shrugged.

"Then?" Molly prompted.

"Then what? The Reaper pulled me up and vanished, along with the white light. And I was left staring down at my lifeless body in shock. I knew something was wrong then. I had watched enough movies to know somehing was off."

Molly smiled ruefully. "Sorry Niall. And... then you had been assigned to me," she laughed and I smiled.

"Yep. I would have been lost without you," I smiled honestly. She was and still is my guide and guardian. Also one of my closest friends.

"But," Molly began again. "The Reaper. He just extracted and bailed? He didn'nt guide you a smidge?"

"Pretty much. And then I had to witness my own funeral and burial. Not fun I tell you," I grumbled.

"I bet. I'm sorry again Niall," Molly said softly and I just shrugged. She knew I was grateful for her empathy.

A few minutes later, I looked up due to her silence and Molly was frowning even more deeply. "This just gets weirder and weirder," she mumbled under her breath. "And we made a bit of progress on your case though," she said louder.

"Oh really? You guys still think Zayn can be the one to help me?"

"Yes. We are still looking at everything. I mean, this is unusual. No case is diffucult for God's office to solve, but it's like whenver we try to figure your problem out, we're barricaded," Molly said frustratedly, then her eyes widened as she realised that she proably revealed too much.

"Wow," I chuckled. "Aren't I lucky?" I said sarsastically. "So, isn't God doing anything..." I asked tentatively, cringing.

"No," Molly said firmly. "He only gets involved in the biggest matters. And I don't your case is a big matter. Though I think Father might contact the archangels."

Silence followed as we both got immersed in our thoughts. I broke it again. "Um. So I just don't do anything and wait? And about Zayn...?"

Molly didn't answer, just squeezed my shoulder. "Yes. Wait. And don't hurt him Niall, and cherish all the time you two have left. That's all I'll say for now."

Before I could ask her more, she had vanished. I sighed, propping my chin on my knees as I fixed my eyes on the shimmering moon. Why can't my life just end in peace already? In the least gory way.
