I blush again, but Jacob just sits there. I'm guessing he gets in trouble a lot.

After school, Jacob comes up to me.

"Text me," he whispers in my ear and hands me a paper.

What have I gotten myself into?

Chapter 13

When I get home, I run up to my bedroom.

I see that I have a text from Josh.

Josh: Hey babe! How was school?
Chloe: Great!
Chloe: How about you?
Josh: Same, except you weren't there.
Chloe: Aw I miss you.
Josh: Any new friends?
Chloe: Not really.
Josh: I gtg. ttyl.

I feel bad lying to Josh about Jacob, but I don't want to tell him yet.

I run downstairs and get the sticky note Jacob gave me from my back pack.

When I get back upstairs, I put his number in my phone.

Chloe: Hi!
Jacob: Who is this?
Chloe: Chloe Lukasiak, from math and history.
Jacob: Oh hey Chloe!
Chloe: What's up?
Jacob: Nothing much. Are you free tonight?

I stare at the text. Of course I'm free but I don't know what to say. Is he going to ask me on a date?

Chloe: Um, I think.
Jacob: Great! I'll meet you at the park at midnight.
Chloe: Isn't that a little late?
Jacob: Yeah, I guess.
Jacob: I'll meet you at 11.

I sigh. I don't want to meet him late at night. My parents would never let me. Unless I sneak out.

I check my phone. It's 10:55. I should probably leave now.

I check the hallways to make sure everyone is asleep, then go back into my room.

I out on a jacket over my pajamas then unlock my window. With a little bit of effort, I push my window open.

I climb out my window and jump. It's a little bit far, but I'm only on the first floor.

I run to the park down the street to meet Jacob.

"Chloe! You came," he says as soon as he sees me.

"Yeah. Why did you want to meet me here? We just met," I ask, slightly annoyed.

"I wanted to get to know you better, and this is where I always meet my friends," he says.

"Oh, I guess that makes sense. Why so late?" I question.

"I don't know, I just like the dark I guess," Jacob says smiling.

"Let's take a walk," I suggest.

We walk and talk for awhile and then he takes me back to my house.

"It was great getting to know you," Jacob says sincerely.

"Yeah, you too," I respond.

He gives me a hug and then I climb back through my window.

I realize I have a message on my phone.

Josh: Good night beautiful!

I gulp. I almost forgot about Josh. A pang of guilt hits me.
