|Chloe|

So many questions wandered through my mind.

I guess the only way to find out, is to go into my dorm and meet my roommate.

When I get to my door, I have a déjà vu moment. This feels just like when I was about to open the door to my first period class, when I first moved to Florida.

I take a deep breath, and walk inside.

When I see my roommate, my jaw drops, for the second time today.

Chapter 23
|Chloe|

"Maddie?" I gasp.

"Chloe!" she says, running up to give me a hug.

Does she not remember that she hates me and stole my boyfriend?

I decide to play along with it because I'd rather not have a roommate that hates me.

"Maddie!" I say back.

"I haven't seen you in forever. I've missed you!" she says smiling.

I try to find the fakeness in her smile, but there's none. Something doesn't seem right.

"Me too!" I lie, hoping she can't sense the confusion in my voice.

"I bet you're wondering why I'm so excited to see you," she says, reading my mind.

"Um, yeah" I admit.

"What I did to you was far worse than what you did to me, so I forgive you and I want to be friends again," Maddie explains.

"Me too," I say genuinely.

Honestly, I did nothing to her, Josh just chose me over her, but I'm glad she doesn't hate me.

•flashback•

"Chloe," Paige said from behind me.

"Yes?" I asked, surprised that Paige was talking to me.

"I'm sorry about how I've been acting for the past two years," she said biting her lip.

"Really?" I asked, still shocked.

"Yeah, Maddie told me not to talk to you," Paige admitted.

"Oh," I managed to say.

"Do you want to come over after school?" she asked.

I tried to figure out if it was a trick, but it didn't seem like it was.

"Sure!" I said, smiling.

After school, I took Paige's bus home and walked into her house.

"Let's have a snack," Paige suggested.

We walked into her kitchen and sat down at the counter.

"Mom! Can you make some popcorn?" Paige called up the stairs.

"Mom's not home!" I heard a boy's voice call back.

I recognized the voice as Josh's. A smile appeared on my face.

"Can you make some popcorn for us Josh?" Paige called.

"No."

"Please."

"No."

"I'll do the dishes for you tonight," Paige suggested.

"Deal," Josh said as he ran down the stairs.

When I saw the blonde boy walk into the kitchen, I couldn't help but smile.

"Oh hey Chloe!" Josh said, smiling.

Paige gave him an evil glare.

"Can I talk to you?" Paige asked Josh.

"Sure. Speak," he said, never taking his eyes off me.

"In private," Paige said, annoyed.

They walked into the laundry room and shut the door.

I'm usually not one to eavesdrop, but I was pretty curious to see what they were talking about. I put my head up against the door to hear what they were saying.

"Josh! You have to stop liking Chloe!" I heard Paige say.

"I can't help it! She's perfect," Josh said.

Why didn't Paige want Josh to like me? Wait. Did Josh just say he liked me?

I put my ear back up against the door to hear what they were saying.

"Just because I invited Chloe to come over doesn't mean I'm not friends with Maddie anymore. Maddie is my best friend and she likes you, so you have to like her!" Paige screamed at him.

"I don't like Maddie and I never will!" Josh yelled back at her.

I had heard enough. I ran back to my seat at the counter. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be happy that Josh liked me, or to be mad at Paige for trying to get Josh to not like me.
