"Yeah, you too," I respond.

He gives me a hug and then I climb back through my window.

I realize I have a message on my phone.

Josh: Good night beautiful!

I gulp. I almost forgot about Josh. A pang of guilt hits me.

Chapter 14
|Josh|

I wake up and see that Chloe hasn't texted me back. She is probably still asleep.

I get ready and head downstairs for breakfast.

I start toasting some bread, while I get out the jam. The bread, now toast, pops out of the toaster and I hear a ding.

The toast is hot, so I grab it and quickly place it down on a plate. I then spread the jam on it and eat it.

"Josh? Are you up?" I hear my mom call groggily from upstairs.

"Yeah! I'm having breakfast!" I yell back.

"I'm not feeling well you're going to have to walk to school," she responds.

"Okay," I sigh.

I hate walking to school without Chloe. Since she's gone, I'll just ask Maddie. Chloe will never know. I hope.

I grab my phone and text Maddie.

Josh: Wanna walk to school together?
Maddie: Sure babe.

I wince. I hate when Maddie calls me that. I feel so guilty.

Josh: You know Chloe and I are still dating, right?
Maddie: Yeah, but she's all the way in Florida, so she'll never know about us.
Josh: What happens if she does.
Maddie: She won't.
Josh: She might.
Maddie: Just tell her we're "just friends."
Josh: What if she can tell I'm lying.
Maddie: She won't, I'm leaving my house now so be ready.

I feel guilty but respond.

Josh: Alright I'll see you in a minute.

I grab my backpack and lunch then head out the door.

I wait on my porch for a little bit so I can wait for Maddie.

"Hey Josh!" she calls when she see me.

"Maddie!" I say.

"Ready?" Maddie says with a smirk.

"For what? School?" I ask confusedly.

"No," she says as if it were obvious, "For this."

She runs up to me and kisses me.

I pull away. She looks at me nervously.

"What was that for?" I ask, slightly angry.

She looks embarrassed and looks down.

"Josh, I love you. I have always been jealous of Chloe and now that she's gone, I can finally have you," she says still looking down.

I don't know what I'm thinking but I say, "I love you too Maddie."
