Abel:
Lamar and I skipped the second half of the school day to get high and then we somehow ended up at the mall.

"What'd you get your mom for Christmas?" Lamar asked as we stopped to get Pretzels.

"She really wanted one of those fancy coffee machines so I got her one of those and a few mugs."

"I got my mom charms for her Pandora bracelet and those shits were expensive. I spent almost three hundred."

"Damn, just for the charms?"

"Yeah, but it was worth it." He shrugged. "Did you get Kenzee's ring yet?"

"Nah...I keep procrastinating about it and I don't know why. Like I think i love her, man. And I know she likes me too but what if I'm wrong?"

"Bro stop stressing, Kenzee loves you."

"How do you know? Has she told you?"

"No, but I just know. When is that thing when you guys say if you wanna go through with the arrangement or not?"

"Like mid-January."

"Ooh damn, I was gonna say wait til after then to get the ring but if you're giving it to her for Christmas I guess you can't."

"It's cool, I'll buy it just incase."

We walked around the mall until we go to Kay Jewelers.

When we walked in, an older white man looked at us as if we were crazy, probably because he could tell we were both high as shit.

"Hello gentlemen, how may I help you today?"

"I was looking at these two rings online." I took out my phone to show him the pictures. "Do you have them here?"

"Absolutely."

He walked to a glass casing and came back with both rings then handed them to me.

"Yo, those are nice as fuck." Lamar said as he looked at the rings with me.

"How much are they again?"

The man answered. "The heart shaped one is eleven-hundred and the pear is twenty one-hundred."

Lamar scoffed. "You better get that heart one."

"I don't know if I like it though...The pear one looks way better."

"Are you really gonna spend that much money on a ring?"

I sighed heavily as I looked back and forth between the rings. I only had twenty-hundred on me and I really wanted that ring for her but I knew there was no way that man was gonna let me leave without that last hundred.

"Alright...I want the pear one but let's negotiate a little bit."

"Negotiate?"

"Yeah, how bout we do fifteen-hundred?"

"Ooh no, I can't do that."

"Seventeen?"

"Eighteen."

"I'll do seventeen-hundred and fifty. That's my final offer."

He tapped his finger on the glass as he thought for a second. "Alright deal."

I took my wallet out my back pocket and started to peel off bills from my stack until I had seventeen hundred dollars laying on the counter. He scooped up all the money and took it to the register before bringing me back a receipt.

"Would you like me to polish the ring and fit it?"

"Yes please, her ring size is a seven."

"Alright, I'll be right back."
