"Dude, you know what day it is?" Gold asked the bored sophomore walking next to him excitedly.

"Gold I have a girlfriend, I'm well aware that tomorrow is Valentines day." Ruby told him, Gold may have been older by one year, but he was certainly way more excited about chocolates and cards than most people.

Gold ignored the loud sigh that the red eyed male gave him and continued talking, "Wow, I can't wait for all the presents and chocolate! People call you 'the charmer', right? Then you probably get a whole lot too." Gold said with a smile.

Ruby sighed again, "You know that's not what Valentines day is about, right? I'm almost afraid to ask why they call you 'the breeder'." he said, throwing Gold a glance.

Gold laughed, clearly amused at what Ruby was implying, "Nah man, I'm like a top member in the ACP (the Animal Care Program), there isn't a better breeder out there." he boasted.

"Right." Ruby stopped at his locker, and Gold stopped at his own, luckily they were right next to each other, which was half the reason they often ended up walking together anyway.

Gold opened up his locker and smiled, there were all sorts of goodies that had been slipped through the opening in the front, cards and letters too. Some were clearly from his friends, others were secret admirers or people asking him out.

"Oh yeah, I put mine in there too." Ruby commented, pointing to a bland looking envelope.

Gold gave him a questioning look, Ruby didn't like anything unsavory or un-unique, which made it weird that his card looked so, normal. He opened the card, and in the blink of an eye, glitter sprung forward covering him.

Ruby burst out laughing, and Gold grumbled, barely taking the time to read the card,

"This is for that little gag from new years. I'm still cleaning paint off of some of my clothes.

- Ruby"

By the time he finished reading, the boy next to him was wheezing. He put the card up and rummaged through the rest of the goods. A smaller envelope caught his attention, much like Ruby's it had nothing on it, but the back said 'anonymous'.

Gold carefully peeled the card open and read it,

"To Gold,

If you're not interested, trash this card, but if you are the next card is located here: A locker that only a gemstone star has the key to.

-from, Anonymous"

Gold reread the writing, it seemed like some sort of game, like a scavenger hunt almost, and it sounded fun. This person had certainly piqued his interest.

"What's it say?" Ruby asked before Gold handed him the card. He read over it and contemplated it for a moment, "It's your call, you can trash it, or you can follow the clue. I can't help you though." he said.

"Later." Ruby waved to Gold, leaving him by the locker and running of to class.

Gold thought over the clue for the entirety of his next class, pondering on what the 'gemstone star' might be. He wasn't good at these things, but he still wanted to try and get to the end. He never turned down a challenge.
