"Well, you're a handsome idiot."

I think I mentioned this in Cleril, but the first time I read book 1, I thought they were going to get together. To be fair, that prediction wasn't far off. What male protagonist doesn't fall in love with his tomboyish female friend?

Clay, apparently.

This threw me off pretty majorly, and for a while, I really didn't like Peril. But I also stopped shipping Claynami, because there was no chemistry to substantiate it. In the long run, I'm glad they're not a couple; like with many other characters, it proves that guys and girls can be friends without dating, which can never hurt in a book.

I don't mind this as a romantic ship, though. Clay is a good counter to Tsunami's hot-headedness. They're very close and I think they both have the strength of character to maintain a relationship. I'm not sure how it'd affect the other dragonets, who may grow possessive of Clay, but it's not impossible.

5/10.
