Are you for or against annotating your physical books?

I mean like if you buy a book from a bookstore and then you make notes/draw/highlight in them for the things that are meaningful to you and all that.

Because I've found this book and it's so special to me and there's so many meaningful quotes but at the same time I want to preserve it in it's glory because it's a hardcover and just really nice.

Idk. What would you do in this situation?
