You and I, we hadn't started off on the best of terms.

It was a spring day, much like this one.

The sky was such a vivid blue, the sun shining brighter than I had ever seen it before.

The smell of new grass and budding flowers engulfing the cool breeze.

We had gone to the same school all of our adolescent lives.

Our paths had crossed often, I always noticed your presence, even if you had never noticed mine.

I always noticed you.

Your blond hair and your big brown eyes.

And your smile.

That was the most beautiful thing about you.

It was a shame that you often hid it from the world, a look of discontent always plastered on your soft features.

I couldn't understand my fascination with you.

I hadn't even known your name then.

The day we met, I was sitting on an old swing set, in a park not too far from my home.

It was a sad scene.

The playground was run down, the swings would groan in protest every time that someone moved them even the slightest.

It was a quiet and secluded park. Situated between two small hills, cherry blossom trees surrounded the greener areas.

It was often empty, abandoned by the neighbourhood kids long ago.

I had been listening to the sound of the wind rustling the leaves, the sound of the birds, when I heard the music.

It was a soft melody, so soft I would have missed it had I not been content with the silence.

The saying curiosity killed the cat had been so true.

Because I had killed the cat the moment I shifted off the small swing and walked towards the music.

A lump of air caught in my throat as I finally reached the source of the tune.

I saw you that spring day.

I saw the way your body moved with the breeze, keeping in time to the haunting melody.

I saw you that day.

I saw the tears as your body twisted and spun, your arms flowing around your sides gracefully.

I saw you.

And I saw your pain.

I sometimes wish that I hadn't.

I wish I had just let it be.

I wish I had just let it be
