Surreal Pictures

Surreal pictures painted across my dreams
If only I could show you what my eyes can see
As I drift off to sleep, warped colors coat everything
The burdens of surreal pictures are only for me

Northern lights are plastering the horizon
They were the only things we could set our eyes on
We were inches away, but we never felt so lost in space
As we gazed out into the light's virtual grace

I soon found myself alone and deep in the sky
Gravity was foreign to me that night
With a surrounding aura for protection
I watched lighting flow in every direction

Awoken by a vibration, your words of hate on my phone screen
I shouldn't cry because it's only a dream
But the thought of those words make me want to scream
Tears pour and my fears awaken me 'till the morning

Dozing until the dawn leads me elsewhere
Warm sunshine and wind flowing in my hair
Internal suffocation turns this peace bittersweet
Help cannot be seeked, infinite dreams lay beneath my feet

This is the journey I take
It's so much bigger than the world when I'm awake
With wonders and terrors spread everywhere
It's a bittersweet land I only venture when the though of you is there

This poem was inspired by my dreams. Each stanza painting a picture of a unique dream I've had over the years that stood out to me, and spoke to me in some way. I wish to be able to share a few of these dreams with people. Everyone has weird dreams but I want to show people what my brain conjured up, I want to share the strange feeling of freedom each gave.
