Emily's pov

"Mrs Fields-DiLaurentis, this is Lewis from Forever Families. Would you and your wife be able to come to the office today?"

"Of course. What time?"

"Would half one suit you? We have some news"

"Has he been born?" I ask with overwhelming excitement

"Uhh...yes"

"I can't wait to tell my wife. We will be there at half one. Bye"

"Sammy, you are a good responsible pupil. Could you please look after the class for a minute?" I ask my student

Sammy blankly blinks at me and I give her no time to answer before shouting "thanks" and running away down the corridors of the school. I run towards Ali's classroom so quickly that I don't have time to stop myself and go hurdling into her classroom as I pull open the door. All her students stare at me in confusion as I almost fall face first onto her floor.

"Ms Fields. What are you doing here?" She asks through grinding teeth

"Could I speak to you for a sec?"

Alison's eyes soften as she becomes concerned about what I am going to tell her

"Do question one" Alison instructs her class

"Uck Ms" a boy complains

"Simon it's only one question" she tells him

"No it's not Ms. It has about seven hundred i, ii and iiis"

"Just do the work" Alison tells her class before leading me out to the hall

"I need to be quick because I've left Sammy in charge of the class"

"Who's Sammy?" Ali asks interrupting me

"It doesn't matter. I came to tell you that we have an appointment at lunch today with Forever Families, and you'll never believe it" I smile, interlocking our hands

"He was born today"

"But he's not due for another eight days?" Alison questions

"One week premature isn't long. I really have to go back especially since someone might drown and then I'll get in trouble for leaving them, but we are getting our son today" I squeal before giving Alison a kiss on the cheek and racing back to my class

Ali's pov

I counted down the seconds until the bell for lunch went. Smiling as I heard the continual  ticking of my watch. I was in such a good mood that I gave none of my classes homework and even let the 9th graders play games on their phones, while I searched up baby articles and texted Emily nonstop about how we are going to be mothers again.

"Are you ready?" Emily asks me, running her hand around the steering wheel

"More than ever" I smile, placing my hand on her thigh

"Me too" she smiles as she rests her hand on top of mine

"Well let's go then" I blush, sliding my hand off her thigh

We anxiously drive to the adoption agency without saying a word to each other, instead we occasionally exchange warm smiles.

"Should we bring the carseat we bought him?"

"Just leave it here. We'll get it later" Emily smiles, running her hand along my arm until she reaches my hand which she slots hers into

We sit in the waiting area, our hands still locked together as her rings rest against my finger creating an indentation. Emily turns around to look at me and sweetly smiles at me before returning her nervous stare to her black converse.

"Emily and Alison, hello. Come through"

"Where is he?" I ask as we sit down

"About that. That's why we brought you here. There is a slight problem"

"Oh my god, is he okay?" Emily shrieks

"Yes he's absolutely fine, a healthy baby" our adoption worker takes a hard gulp before continuing "his birth mother has decided that...She...wants to keep him" he stutter

"Excuse me?" Emily questions

"She has decided that she would like to raise him"

"She can't do that" I argue

"She can, she is his mother"

"No she's the bitch who give him up. We are his mothers" I scream, standing up and slamming my hands onto his desk

"Listen to me Lewis, you are going to tell us where our son is and we are going to get him"

"Mrs DiLaurentis-Fields, I am sorry but he is not your son"

"You're a bastard. Come on Emily"

Emily's pov

"Alison" I sniff

"Emily don't"

"We need to talk about this" I sigh

"No we don't. Not yet"

We drive 30 minutes down the freeway, in complete silence, before Alison takes the wrong turn

"Alison you came off too early"

"No I didn't" she argues

"So where are we going?"

"To get our son"

"Alison. We can't"

"Yes we fucking can. She can't just decide to keep him"

We arrive at the hospital and Alison storms into the maternity suit.

"How to hell are we going to find her anyway?"

"I saw her name on that asshole Lewis' desk"

Alison confidently walks up to reception

"Hello, how can I help you?"

"Hello, we are looking for Rachel McEvoy. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy today"

"Are you relatives?" The receptionist asks

"Yes. I am her sister and this is my wife" Alison tells her

"Okay, Rachel is in room one hundred and seventy four"

"Thank you very much" Ali says, giving her as much of a smile as she can muster

Alison grabs onto my hand with a grip that could crumble bones, and her heels crack the tiled floor as she drags my reluctant body towards the room

"One seven two, one seven three" Alison says, reading aloud

"Room one hundred and seventy fou..." Alison stops in her path and stares through the square-wired glass window

I stand beside her also looking into the room. My eyes fill with water as I watch our son cradled in the arms of his biological mother who is smiling with pride. Sat in the chair next to her is who I assume to be his father. I look down at Alison's hand as her fist slowly relaxes until her palm rests against her leg. We both look into the room, for what feels like two weeks, as I hear both of our hearts slowly cracking.

"Fuck. We can't do it, can we?"

"Nope" I sigh

Alison takes a deep sigh and lightly closes her eyes before taking one last look at our son and walking off. I closely follow her back to the car

Ali's pov

Emily unlocks our house which seems so empty now. I shuffle towards the sofa and slump into the cushions. Emily collapses onto the sofa beside me and without muttering a single word, rests her hand on my thigh and lifts up my hand placing in on top of hers, our fingers crumble together as we both listen to the blaring silence surrounding us.

As the phrase says 'Every cloud has a silver lining'. Emison may be going through this heartbreaking disappointment but I have a plan; I promise. -E
