Balanced Spending (Part 3)

Who Gets Allah’s Mercy? – Part 3

Please refer to the previous post for the first three categories of Ibad-ur Rahman.

Category #4:

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes).

{Surat Al-Furqan 25: Verse 67}

•Ibad-ur Rahman are those who maintain a healthy, normal, responsible budget in between.

•Qur’an teaches us that we should not spend money that isn’t in our pockets. Don’t be addicted to credit cards. Spend within our budget. Unfortunately the only time Muslims are careful with their spending is when they have to give sadaqah – they suddenly start listing all of their unpaid bills & become certified professional accountants.

•A lot of us are doing well financially, alhamdulillah. But just because you can afford it, doesn’t mean you should spend your money. You don’t have to get the newest car nor pay five times the price of a shirt just because of the brand. Your money can be used for so many other good deeds. You can help your family or community who are not doing financially well instead.
We also have to teach this to our kids. Don’t simply give them money. Make them work for it, for example let them do all of the dishes for a whole week, so that when you finally hand them money, they will value what they earned.
