Jack has been so nice to me since his promise in the janitors closet. He has stood up for me which I haven't been able to do myself for years. But in the classes I don't have with him, the bullying gets worse than it was before. People are now getting physical, because Anna hit me across the cheek in Technology, Jerry pinched me in the lunch line, and George threw rocks at me while I was walking home today.

I wish that Jack could be there with me all the time because I can't bring up the courage to stand up for myself. It's like I'm a worm and Anna is the bird. I can choose to crawl away and stand up for myself or I can choose to sit there and let her eat me. Well, right now I'm getting eaten. Jack has been doing what he can, but I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that he isn't in all my classes. Every time I'm in Art, a class I don't have with Jack and I get bullied, I always think Jack will be there but he's not.

"Hey Jack, can I talk to you?" I asked, pulling him into the janitors closet, now our Talk Room.

"I didn't really have a choice, but sure," he said. "We are in the Talk Room."

"How do I stand up for myself?" I blurted.

"You just have to bring up the courage to stand up to people that make you stressed," he explained. "I know it's hard, but once you tell them off, they most likely won't tease you again."

"Why is life so hard?" I asked, crying.

"Because you have to make it easy," he answered, rubbing my back.

"And how do I do that?" I questioned.

"You just be you, and nobody else but you," he said. "If you have the strength to stand up for yourself and come to school being who you are and looking like you always have means that you made life easier for yourself, Mckayla."

"You make life easy by being you," he said, opening the janitors closet door.

"Wait!" I started.

Jack turned around and looked at me.

"Thank you," I said quietly.

"For what?" he asked.

"For being there for me, for standing up for me, for giving me advice, everything, Jack," I said, tears coming.

"Thank you, for being the one person I needed in life," I said, squeezing past him and walking out the door and to Music.

He's the person I need. I need him.
