"Is it utterly pathetic that I've been in love with the same person for oh I don't know the last seventy years."
"Nah It's poetic."

"So you see I just got signed up, first one in the family" I hummed in response and forced a fake smile at the random man who was unsuccessfully trying to impress me. I wasn't standing here for him, I was waiting for my dearest older brother who was getting his orders. "So who are you waiting for?" The man who's named I didn't know asked.
"My brother" I replied looking anywhere but him, I was feeling incredibly uncomfortable and hoping my brother would hurry up.
"So not a boyfriend?"
"No" I replied my lips pursed.
"Well then maybe-"
"Hey what the hell you doing" a familiar voice yelled and running over to us in full uniform was my brother "get away from my sister before I make you" the guy wasted no time running off terrified.
"Nicely done brother" I commented as we walked down the street a smile on my lips.
"Yeah well, he wasn't good enough for you."
"James in your eyes no one is good enough for me."
"Well there is one" James smirked at me knowingly.
I scoffed at him "you and I both know that's never going to happen so stop bringing it up in every conversation."
"But why would I do that when it's so fun to watch you get embarrassed?"
I punched his shoulder hard "James stop."
"Hey you cant punch a member of the army and it's Sargent Barnes to you now,"
"Ok Sargent Barnes," I said mockingly "did you get your orders?"
James sighed "yeah shipping out for England first thing tomorrow morning."
"Send me a postcard" I gave him a faint smile.
"I'll be fine Thea" he reassured me.
"I don't doubt that for a second Jam." James smiled at me wrapping his arm around my shoulder as we approached the picture house, just before the entrance is a little side alley, I stared down it out of habit and sighed "James it's happening again."
"And this is why we can never leave him alone for five minutes" James sighed.
"Agreed" we both walked down the alley, where two men were beating up my best friend Steve Rogers.
"Hey pick on someone your own size," James said as he turned one around, the guy swung for him but James was quicker punching him square in the jaw before kicking him up the backside
"What about you doll, how about we get out of here?" The other guy said to me.
I rolled my eyes before punching him in the face "How about no" both boys ran away from us, causing me to chuckle, beaten up by a girl how very attractive.
"You know sometimes I think you like getting punched," James said to Steve.
"I had him on the ropes" Steve replied.
"We know, thought you could do with a hand though," I said shrugging.
"How many time is this?" James asked holding one of many Steve's rejection enlistment forms "ah you're from Paramus now, you know It's illegal to lie on your enlistment form."
I peered over James's arm to have a look "seriously Jersey. Traitor" I said smiling.
Steve looked at us seriously "you get your orders?"
"The 107th Sargent James Barnes shipping out for England first thing tomorrow."
"I should be going"
"Now if you went I'd be left in this city all alone, I need at least one of my boys around" I smiled at him, Steve weakly gave me one back.
"Come on" James wrapped an arm around Steve's shoulder while I walked next to him "my last night I got to get you cleaned up."
"Why where are we going?" Steve asked, even I hadn't been told where we were going yet.
"The future" James replied handing Steve a newspaper.
