Exception to the rules // Steve Rogers // (1)

~London calling ~

Heat, the heat was so hot that if I had been standing next to it I was of burned there and then, glass fell from the screening room onto every person standing underneath. I looked around in confusion and saw a man in a grey suit running up the stairs with the last vile that was used to transform Steve. "Stop him" I heard Dr Erskine yell, then two gun shots rang out, the poor doctor was laying dead on the floor and Peggy was running after his murderer.

I quickly gathered myself, standing up and ran up the stairs following them both "Dorothy" I heard someone say, I turned around just in time to see a gun being thrown at me by Cole.

I caught it "thanks" I replied running up the rest of the stairs and out the shop. Just as I left the shop the car parked next to me exploded the hear once again tickling my cheek . I looked around and saw Peggy standing in the middle of the street her gun up, a shot was fired and the black car speeding down the street crashed "did you kill him?" I asked running up next to her.

"Only one" she replied.

We both saw the guy get into the yellow cab and start driving towards us "mind if I have a go?" I asked my gun ready to go.

"Are you any good?"

"Well my brother is the best shot in the whole of Brooklyn so-" Peggy stepped out the way as I raised my own, I fired the gun as the car kept driving towards me. One shot, missed. Two shot, missed. I went to shoot a third time but what felt like a train crashed into me and I was on the floor, I looked up to see Steve on top of me, our noses touching "I had him" I said.

"I know, I'm sorry" he was then off me and running after the cab.

"What is he doing" Peggy asked pulling me up.

A small smile stretched across my face "being a hero."

"Need any help" I asked as I approached Howard who was looking at the Nazi submarine. It was the day after Dr Erskine died, Steve was in the papers a hero to all.

"You know mechanics?" Howard asked looking up and away from his work.

"My brother practically raised me, our parents were distant he taught me how to punch, shot, ride a motorcycle and to fix anything and everything with an engine."

"Well then be my guest" I smiled at him as I hopped down to his work station."

"That whole time at the exhibition when your flying car crashed to the floor I couldn't help but think about what you could of done to increase the stability of the mechanics."

"Are you sure your actually a girl" Howard joked.

"I suppose I'm just like no girl you've ever met before. So is this the engine."

"Yeah, what do you think?"

I studied it for a moment before voicing my opinions "I think that it's like nothing I've ever seen before. This technology is beyond advanced."

"So we're screwed then."

"Have a little faith."

"Stark, what have we got here" Colonel Phillips asked.

"Speaking modestly I'm the best mechanical engineer in this county. But I don't know what's inside this thing or how it works" he replied.

"Barnes what are you doing down there" Col asked me.

"Sir I can fix a motorcycle with only a knife and a bobby pin but this, this technology is decades away from anything we have."

"Then who is" the senator asked.

"Hydra. I'm sure you've been reading our briefings" the Colonel replied.

"I'm on a number of committees Colonel."

"Hydra is the Nazi deep science division It's led by Johann Schmidt. But he had much bigger ambitions" Peggy explained walking in the room with Steve who was now wearing a type of military uniform.

"Hydra's practically a cult. They worship Schmidt, they think he's invincible" the Colonel explained to the senator.

"So what are you going to do about it?" The senator asked.

"Spoke to the president this morning. As of today the SSR is being retasked."

"Colonel?" I asked.

"We are taking the fight to hydra. Pack your bags Agent Carter, Barnes. You too Stark You're flying to London tonight."

"Sir if you're going after Schmidt I want in" Steve said,

"Your an experiment. You're going to Alamogordo" Colonel replied.

"The serum worked."

"I asked for an army and all I got was you. You are not enough, Carter let's go" and with that the Colonel walked away a reluctant Peggy following. I then saw the senator talking to Steve but unfortunately I couldn't hear them.

"You ever been to London?" Howard asked.

"Me, never" I replied a smile plastered on my lips.

"Then why do you look so happy?"

"My brothers stationed in England."

Howard opened his mouth but was stopped by Steve "hey Dotty."

"Steve, hey."

"Erm, so I was wondering if you maybe wanted to spend some time together before you leave."

"I'd love that" I turned around to Howard "do you need anymore help?"

"I've think we've learned everything we can from it, go have fun" Howard winked at me.

I rolled my eyes at him "thanks" I held my hand out and Steve pulled me up, although not realising his new found strength pulled me a little to hard causing me to nearly fall face first onto the floor, thankfully though Steve caught me by my waist to steady me. I could feel the blush that was probably all over my face "thanks" I mumbled removing myself from Steve's hold. From behind I could Howard's laugh "shut up Howard.

"Say hi to Bucky for me" Steve said.

"I will" I replied.

"And please be safe."

"I will."

"And please write so I know your okay."

I placed both my hands on his cheeks "Steve stop worrying I'll be fin and I will write, of course I'll write."

"Dorothy" Peggy called from behind us.

"I have to go, see you soon Steve" I placed a kiss on his cheek and without looking back got on the plane. Here I come London.
