"Why do we always let him convince us to do stuff like this?" I mumbled to Steve.
"I have no idea" Steve mumbled back.
The whole place looked like something out of the future, the different colour fireworks which were a rarity in themselves were exploding in all different colours, there was a huge globe right in the centre of the exhibition and other inventions in the surrounding area. It appears I was the only one out of the three of us interested as Steve has to keep a hold of my arm to make sure I didn't get left behind. "Would the pair of you lighten up already, and look I don't see what the problem is, your about to be to be the last eligible bachelor in New York?"
I rolled my eyes "because you would love that." James decided to ignore this much like most of what I say.
"You know there three and a half million women here."
"Yeah well, I'd settle for just one" I swear I saw Steve's eyes flicker to me even if it was just for a second, but I must just be seeing things I concluded.
"Good thing I took care of that" James said waving at two girls waiting by one of the many statues. And yes you heard right two girls, my brother always insisted I came with him and Steve on these blind dates but yet never brought one along for myself which resulted in these things f always going the same way. James would take us all dancing, the girl set up for Steve would ignore him and instead fall all over my brother which would nearly make my lunch make a reappearance, no boys would ask me to dance since if they got with five feet of me James would send them a death glare. So instead me and Steve would sneak off somewhere eat sweets and watch the sun set. And everytime I watch the sky alight with red's and dark purples I couldn't help but think that this was James's plan to get me and Steve magically together (even though I did have feelings for him - but point disregarded.)
The three of us approached the two girls, they were pretty I had to admit but I knew tonight would be no different. "What you'd tell her about me?" Steve asked.
"Only the good stuff" James replied. Me and Steve casted a doubtful look at each other. Girls were shallow they wanted a man who looked the part (my brother) they wouldn't give guys who were different a chance, even if they had the kindest soul (Steve) "ladies" he greeted them with a smirk.
"Who's that" the bruenette one asked gesturing to me.
"I'm Dorothy, Bucky's sister" I introduced myself, just bescuase I hated the situation didn't mean I had to be rude "its nice to me you."
"You to" she replied before her eyes casted over to Steve.
"And this ladies is Steve" James clasped a hand on Steve's shoulder, both girls smiled at him before turning there attention back to my brother.
"Shall we" he said gesturing to the entrance of the event.
Inside was crowded with people to say the least, the brunette girl was holding hands with my brother and the blonde was next to her. Me and Steve were walking behind them arms linked (his way to ensure I wouldn't get left behind.) "Oh my god it's starting" the brunette said excited (I think her name was Connie but wasn't positive) before her and her friend dragged James closer.
"Come on Steve you could at least try and look excited" I said nudging his side slightly.
He gave me a weak smile back "I'm trying dotty" I felt my heart beat accelerate and my checks flush red, Steve is the only person to call me that and every time he does my stomach erupts with butterflies.
"I know you Steve, I know your still upset about not being allowed to enlist but it will happen. When the time is right and until that day comes try and enjoy the tiniest bit of normality that we have. Please for me."
"Only because you asked nicely."
On stage were about five girls all in watching outfits and top hats "ladies and gentlemen Mr Howard Stark" one of the girls called into the microphone, I watched curiously as a man (who I'm assuming is Howard Stark) came on stage and kissed the girl who announced him. If that ever happened to me James would make sure they never saw the light of day again I thought.
"Ladies and gentlemen what if I told you that in just a few short years-" I saw out the corner of my eye Steve offering the girl he was on a date with a sweet, she looked at him weirdly before turning her attention back to the show in front.
"You want one" Steve mumbled somewhat shyly.
"Do you even have to ask anymore" I replied taking one.
"Your automobile wont even have to touch the ground at all" the girls helping him removed all four wheels from the car causing a gasp to sound from the audience "yes thanks Mandy. With Stark robotic reversion technology you'll be able to do just that" my head tilted to the side slightly as Howard Stark clicked a few bottlons on the control panel and the car lifted off the ground It was the most amazing thing I had eveer seen and that included that one time james ate 20 twinkies in a row before going on the cyclone at Coney island. Twice.
The car stayed in the air for a few seconds before malfunctioning and crashing down to the floor. The audeience laughed and clapped but all I could thnk about was what he could of done to increase the stablitlty of the mechanics "I did say a few years didn't I" Stark joked.
I still couldn't get my head around the car and was so desperartly trying to figure it out I went into my own little world until I felt someone hit the back side of my head "I thought you were kepping an eye on him" James said.
"What" I asked confused rubbing my head. James gestured to the surrounding area, there was no Steve "oh shit, sorry James but I got a bit distracted by the flying car!" I chewed on my lip thinking where he could of gone before it came to me "I know where he is, excuse us for a second ladies" I grabbed James arm and dragged him to the recruitment station that was at the expo.
