10. what is going on?

I'm already at chapter 10! I love writing this story and I really hope you enjoy reading it too! Okay let's get this going. Enjoy!!!!!

I'm just sitting here while SHIELD agents keep running past me. I look around me, curious as to what is going on. I heard someone say something like they're here and then something else about a brother.

After a few minutes doctor Banner walks in. But when he sees me he stops right in his tracks.

"Hello doctor."

I give him my best attempt at a smile, but I imagine it being a bit weird. My back started hurting again a little after I got in here and I'm afraid it's showing.

"Hey, ehm... I'll be right back."

He turns a corner and I see him talk to the medic from earlier. He comes back a little later. He walks in and shakes my hand carefully. My left wrist is still in a cast and my right hand has quite some bandaids on it from all the cuts.

"I'm Nova." I say.

He is typing something on his tablet.  "Stark hm?" He says looking up and giving me a small smile. I give him a small nod and he continues typing.

"So how are you? Besides the back. I heard it has been quite rough for you."

He's interested in how I am? That's new. "I'm alright I guess." I answer quickly.

"Good" he shrugs "Can't be easy. Getting on some big ship with a bunch of strangers." He looks up to me questioning.

"Ship?"

"Yeah, ehm, What we're on. Allows people to travel overseas."

"Well, yeah, it is a little scary."

"Yeah it is."

He finishes something up on his tablet and puts it on the desk. Then he grabs some sort of scan thingy and come over to me. "Alright just sit up straight. This won't hurt at all but try to sit still."

I nod and sit up. I hear the machine bleep a few times and then he moves over to the desk and starts typing some more.

"Hm... it should be alright, looks like you twisted this here." He points at some part of the bones in my lower back on the scan. "And it paralyzed momentarily. Shouldn't last long."

I study the scan he made. It's like the hologram thingies back in the tower.

Doctor Banner walks back towards me. "You should probably try to stand up and take a few steps. It'll probably get over pretty soon."

He holds out his hands and I allow him to lift me off. He sets me down and helps me stay upright. I take his hands and try to move my legs. I easily set my right foot in front of my left. But when I try to move my left foot I just stumble and nearly fall over. It doesn't work. I'm starting to panic a little. My breathing starts to pick up and my eyes feel stingy.

"Hey, hey, Nova, it's alright, don't worry. It's going to take a minute. Just take a breath and try again."

He looks me in my eyes and gives me a small, reassuring nod. After taking a few deep breaths I try again. First my right leg. Then my left. It doesn't come off the floor, but I manage to sort of slide it forward a few inches. Surprising myself I look up and smile at doctor Banner. He seems even more surprised then I am.

"That's fast. See if you can try again."

I try a few more times. Then I do it without his help and two minutes later I'm walking normally and fully on my own again.
