Alone.
He was always alone.
Lance didn't used be alone; if anything, he used to be emerged in crowds of people. Earth seemed to have an endless amount of potential friends, but with his current situation, he seemed to have more enemies rather than friends. All he had left was his teammates and possibly an ally here or there. That being said, space got pretty boring at times.
As he decided to head out, Lance sped off with red, not bothering to leave a message. They'd find him if they needed him.
Time seemed to be lost as he sat admiring the view. It wasn't of anything special— just a few planets scattered here and there. Everything was tranquil and soon soothed his never-ending nerves. Slowly, his eyelids grew heavy and he was no longer able to stay awake.
He awoke to feel a loud rumbling heading off. Startled, Lance lurched red forwards and maneuvered his way back to the castle. Once he got within a certain range, debris started popping up on his radar. Not good. The sight that greeted him was not a pleasant one.
The castle.
The castle was gone.
All that was left of it was a mountain of drifting panels and fragments of what used to be the hard exterior of it. Only one part of it was left in an identifiable shape. Soon, he discovered a sight that was more gut-wrenching than the remains of the castle.
Lance hurried red over to what remained of the control deck and made his way inside. It was still in decent shape so he did not require his oxygen mask or helmet.
Pidge was the first one he found.
She was covered in blood, having her insides in view for all to see.
He felt bike rise up in his throat, causing him to curl over away from his deceased friend. When he finally recovered with tears in his eyes, Lance turned towards the hallway to the right. A trail of blood was what lead him to his next discovery: Shiro.
Shiro was found with his only organic arm scattered across the floor, with the scar on his nose reopened. Blood mixed in with the whites of his hair, tainting it crimson. Lance gasped sharply, quickly turning away so he wouldn't vomit again.
He continued onwards and found the next sight equally unnerving. It was Coran this time. He seemed to have the least gruesome death so far, with only purple marks across his neck and some gun wounds. Still, he wasn't something you wanted to see on a close companion. Tears made their way down Lance's face. Coran didn't deserve to die, not in this way.
Allura was the sight that greeted him next.
Sure Pidge's murder was quite bad, but Allura's managed to top her's. He only spared her a quick glance before hurling up the last of his breakfast. Her head had been smashed in, leaving her brain matter to splatter across the walls and drip down onto the floor. He could practically hear the sickening crunch that must have occurred when her skull caved in.
His legs felt weak, yet he continued on.
Last, but not least, he found his best friend not too far off from Allura's corpse. Hunk's body was mangled and torn up, laying flat on his stomach. Cuts littered his body and burn marks covered his left arm and neck. Multiple stab wounds were found in his legs. Lance flipped him over and found a more disturbing sight underneath. One of his dull brown eyes had been ripped out, leaving an empty socket and blood streaks down his face.
For probably not the last time, he felt bile rise up and out of his throat. Lance had never looked at his friend's faces after death, but assumed one thing. They were all stretched with pain and fear. He stumbled to a nearby wall and slid down. Lance was lost, and he didn't know what to do.
So he sat there, with only himself as comfort, all alone in an unforgiving space.
