dakota is not necessary selfless or selfish, but is more on the insecure side. she doesn't always put other before herself, but she also thinks no highly of herself whatsoever. in fact, she doesn't think of herself as anything.
even still, she's quite goofy and more of what people would call a bad girl. she drinks, she parties, she just likes to have fun. not necessarily a go with the flow type of girl either, though. if you don't trust her or if you don't like her, she'll simply do the same and call you out on it.
she's very well knowing and clever. she knows her way around. she's very good at a lot of things, still she's not really one to brag.
and last but not least, she's mostly sarcastic. at times she can lack the emotion of being serious. and while at times, she has a slight resting bitch face, you can't tell if she's being sarcastic or serious.

backstory;
dakota was in foster care most of her life, with no memory of her birth parents or if she even had any. she was almost adopted a few times between the age of fifteen and sixteen. but it was apparent that once they had found out about her delinquency, they wanted nothing to do with her. although as a child, she never really could understand why no one wanted to adopt her. at first, she'd tell herself that they didn't have any extra room in their house or even that they just don't have enough money. eventually, dakota came to realize these things weren't always the case. even though, she'd be fine being broke or sleeping on a couch in a living room, just to have a family was all she ever wanted.
but she couldn't have that.
after finally acknowledging that fact, she escaped the foster care system when she was only just about to turn seventeen. with no money and no place to go, she found a place that served free coffee and bagels on tuesday. and for the first time, she was lucky— it was tuesday that day.
she got a job there and even secretly slept in the upstairs office. other nights, she would walk around the city and mostly stay up the whole night exploring.
when she could finally afford a small home, she didn't immediately buy it. but soon she bought a cheap trailer and made it her own.
now, being bias, you probably think it was a run down and dirty trailer, and she didn't care about what it looked like. although in reality, she took the time to paint the outside of the trailer pure white, while the inside was very tidy and somewhat simple.
