Quotes for this chapter:

"Do not give up. The beginning is always the hardest."

"Recovery is remembering who you are and using your strengths to become all that you were meant to be."

"Hey," Robert greeted me. "Good luck with Principal Yen."

"Thanks," I said. "I need it." I approached her office, and took a few deep breathes. I can do this, I thought. I can do this.

"Come in," Principal Yen said.

"Hello, Principal Yen. Mr. Caston told me yesterday that you wanted to see me."

"Yes, I do. We need to discuss some things."

"Like what?"

"Your recent hospitalization, grades, and makeup work."

"Of course." I fidgeted in my chair, looking anxious.

"Don't be nervous. It's completely alright."

"I'll try."

"Remind me, what grade are you in?"

"Sophomore year."

"You were in the hospital. Why was that?"

"I weighed eighty-eight pounds. I wanted to loose more weight, but I just got back from inpatient hospitalization. I'm trying to gain weight again. I've also had a relapse, which was a few weeks ago, in fact. I couldn't eat. I had to go to the hospital again. My father's currently in the hospital right now, recovering from a suicide attempt due to the death of his wife. But, I'm currently gaining weight. I'm recovering."

"Thank you, Rachael. I hope you make a full recovery."

"I intend to do so. You're welcome."

I went from Principal Yen's office to History class. After, Robert asked how it went.

"Good. Surprisingly good."

"What did she ask about, may I ask?"

"The grade I'm in and why I was in the hospital."

"I see. Well, I'm still glad He didn't take you yet."

"No, not yet. Still going strong, like we are."

"Ha ha. Cafe for some French fries and milkshakes with strawberries?"

"Yes, please. I need to gain weight."

"Of course. Yes, you do. Recovery's a start. I'll be with you always. I'm proud of you, sweetheart."

"I'm proud of myself as well, honey. Awe, really, always?"

"Well, not always, but you know what I mean."

"I do."

After school, I went to the hospital to check on Dad.

"How're you holding up, Dad?" I asked.

"He can't talk just yet." Dr. Elizabeth said. "It might be a few days."

"Of course. I understand. Please be okay, Daddy." I kissed his cheek.

"He'll be fine in a few days."

"Thank you, Dr. Elizabeth, for taking care of him. I really appreciate it."

"You're quite welcome."
