I heard the conductor yell in his thick German accent, "Wir habben London!" (We have reached London!) I smiled and picked up my suitcases and headed off of the train with the others. As I stepped off the train, the other passengers stopped me, "Ms., You came from Berlin right?" One woman asked. "Yes, I did." I answered. "Why did you leave?" She asked. "To escape persecution, I'm a Jew." I gasped after I realized what I said. "That's okay, we all are too. Let me guess, you had a fake birth certificate too?" She said.

"Yes." I replied. "Do you have a place to stay?" That's when it struck me. I had no money and nowhere to stay. "N-No..." I said softly. "That's okay dear, we have some family who'd be more than happy to take you in with us." She said smiling sweetly. "Thank you." I said smiling at her. I followed her and her large family onto a bus. After we all boarded the bus, we all sat somewhat close together. Many British people stared at us, as they knew EXACTLY where we were from and what we were. Most looked at us with sympathetic looks while others were just awkward looks.

About 15 minutes later, we arrived at a little house. We all stepped off the bus as it drove away. "How long will you need to stay dear?" She said sweetly. "I'm not sure, I have a...friend in the German Army and he said to take a train to London and after the war was over, he'd come for me." I said quietly. "You poor thing, you can stay as long as you'd like with us." We walked into the house only to find and old woman sitting there by the fire. "Cheerio!" She said with a British accent. "This is my mother-in-law, Elizabeth." She said. I waved politely.

"Oh and I forgot to introduce my family!" She smiled, "This is my husband William, and our five children Emma, Sophia, James, Charlie and Thomas." She said motioning to the small crowd behind us. "Now onto where you'll be sleeping, you'll be sleeping in the room down the hall all the way to left. Now if you want to unpack while we make dinner that's fine." She said walking into the kitchen.

As I walked down the hallway to the room where I'd be staying, I seen that the room had multiple bunk beds and toys along with children's clothing and shoes. I realized I'd be sharing a room with this woman's children. Oh boy. It's not that I don't like kids, I just don't always want a swarm of them around me constantly. After I finished, I walked back into the living room. The old woman I seen when we first entered the house was sitting in her chair and called me over.

"Hello ma'am, I'm Y/n." I said. "Nice to meet you, now my daughter-in-law has told me about you. You and her both are Jewish and you had to leave Germany, It is very sad indeed. Just because some old, sour bugger decided to go on a racist homicidal rampage. Tut tut tut..." She said angrily. "Now, would you like to play a game of chess while we talk?" She asked smiling again. "Sure!" I said happily as I had not had any source of entertainment in the longest time.

She got up slowly and walked over to a shelf and pulled a familiar looking box of the shelf. She walked back over with her slippers shuffling on the plush carpet. As she set the board game up, she struck up another conversation. "Do you have any family, love?" She asked sweetly. I moved one of my pawns. "No ma'am, they were taken away by Nazis while I somehow was lucky enough to have remained hidden." I said tears threatening to fall. "How about any friends?" She asked as she moved her piece. "Yes, one friend. His name is Ludwig, he's pure Aryan though, so he was required to fight for the Nazis even though he didn't want to."

"I'm sorry." She said while moving another one of her pieces. "Dang it! How did you win already?!" I said a bit loudly. She simply smiles and chuckled a bit while leaning back in her chair. A while later, the woman from earlier called everyone for dinner. I smiled remembering back to when me and my family used to do this.
