Warning: Sad towards end (but don't worry it gets better)

I was a young plebitarian girl who lived in the city of Pompeii and had fallen in love with Sir Roman Empire. He was very powerful and kind to his people and even let the countries he conquered still have their own government. He was also incredibly handsome. I thought he'd never return my feelings, but one day, I bumped into him in the marketplace and we became friends.

I didn't know who he was at the time, but as our friendship grew, he eventually told me. Months later, my feelings for him grew much more apparent and by then I knew he knew I loved him. We didn't get to be around each other often since he couldn't be seen with a plebitarian such as myself. I completely understood, someone as rich and powerful as himself couldn't be seen with someone who has as little money as me.

One day as we were talking with each other he randomly asked me, "Y/N, do you love me?" My face went completely red, "M-Maybe." I looked down at the ground, he probably wouldn't anything to do with me after I said that. I felt him place his hand on my cheek, cupping it. I felt my blush intensify as he gently lifted my head and I looked up at him. "Y/N...Te amo." He whispered softly. I felt him place a soft kiss on my lips and I kissed back.

He slowly pulled away and blushed also. The rest of the night was spent walking around and talking while I hugged his arm. "Y/N, we can't let anyone know about this...I don't know what will happen to us if anyone does find out, but more importantly...what they'll do to you." He said sadly. "We'll make it work..." I said trailing off.

For the next few months, we were very happy together, even though our relationship had to be kept secret. But on that horrible day...the day that volcano near my hometown of Pompeii erupted...and I died, everything was lost.

Everything was normal that day, people buying and selling things in the marketplace, children playing and people talking. I was waiting for Rome to come and talk to me in our meeting place when IT happened. Dark clouds rolled over the hills, and brought darkness from above. The air was filled with ash and smoke. No one knew what was going on. I looked up to the volcano and saw molten rock and lava explode out of the top.

Everything seemed to stop. My eyes widened as I was frozen in fear and so did everyone else's. The once loud, noisy and cheerful town square was now eerily quiet. As everything faded back into reality, what seemed like hundreds of screams of pure terror sounded out throughout the city, mine being one of them. I quickly pivoted on my foot and sprinted as fast as I could towards the opposite direction along with everyone else.

The thick, dark clouds of smoke and ash clouded everything and it was very hard for me to breathe and to see. I heard Rome's voice from behind me, "Y/N! Y/N! Where are you?! I'm coming!" I turned around, "Rome?! Where are you?!" I darted through the hoards of people running away from the volcano as I looked for my beloved. The lava came rushing towards me faster, when I realized he must have been up ahead in the opposite direction, I turned around and ran back away from the lava with everyone else.

Since the clouds of ash and smoke were so thick and dark now, I tripped and fell. I couldn't see to get up and that's when I felt the most intense heat I've ever felt wash over me and then it was just all black...I woke up in a strange place that looked like it was in the clouds. There was a large pearly gate in front of me and I heard trumpets sound. "Welcome home my child." I heard a voice call out.

Many, Many years later....

For the last...oh...I don't know how many years it's been. A few hundred maybe. I was in heaven with my old relatives and friends who'd passed away and even made new friends. But I couldn't lie...no matter how great it was here, I missed Rome terribly. I heard a very familiar voice behind me one day, "Y/N? Is that you?" I turned around and my face lit up instantly, "R-Rome!" I ran up and hugged him and he hugged back, "I've missed you so much." I hugged him tighter, "I missed you too."

"But wait...how are you here? You're a country, you can't die." I said. "My country...fell. There is no more Rome, but instead, I have two grandsons who rule over my land for me; Italy and Romano." He said with a slight frown. "W-What about Pompeii? Did anyone make it out?" He nodded his head, "Yes...but most people didn't." I kissed his cheek, "But at least we're together."
