"Arrogance is an unhealthy ego in need of repair" (Thomas Faranda)
REMY'S POV
"Wow, would you look at that fresh piece of meat!" Jordan whistles in an appreciative tone that makes me want to gag.
"I have told you countless times not to speak about people in such a derogatory way," I retort, not even bothering to look up from the mat I am currently sitting on. "You should focus on doing your warm-up properly. You can't do judo with a sprained ankle and the next competition is in less than two weeks.""Okay, sorry, Mister Self-Righteous. Don't look. He's just one of the hottest dudes I have had the pleasure of openly ogling in my life. It's no biggie though. We better focus on training and remain celibate for the rest of our lives."
Curiosity wins the battle against respectability and I look up, quickly scanning my surroundings until my eyes fall on the only new person in the club, the insufferable Nour. Just my luck!
"What is he even doing here?" I groan. "Doesn't he have places to be? Events to attend? Kittens to skin alive?"
"Wow, it's the first time I have seen you loosing your shit so quickly about someone" my so-called friend comments. "The sex must have been wild"
I sigh and take a deep breath before looking in Nour's direction again. Sure enough, my least favourite housemate is flirting with Rebecca, a very short girl with a round face, red hair and a dazzling smile. He looks like his usual arrogant self, making it hard to believe he lost his job only two weeks before (Even though he told his brother he quit, I am positive he was sacked. It was probably because of a professional mistake, like trying to hook up with a customer).
"Jordan, don't let his attractive exterior fool you: I can guarantee that he is very ugly on the inside" I reply sternly, choosing to ignore his previous comment.
"Oh, so you already know him ON THE INSIDE. And here I was thinking you were all talk and no action."
"Okay, first, gross, second, he is straight, third, even if he was queer, I doubt he would bottom."
"Lemme guess," Jordan quips with a smirk, "fourth, you don't care at all about his sexuality because you would never hook up with someone like him?"
"Smartass" I smack his arm "Of course I don't give a flying fuck about him. He is just my best friend's obnoxious little brother"
"Okay. Well, let me just tell you that this guy is a total bottom and noodles are straight until they get wet."
"Yeah, I distinctively remember you telling this to Nathan, your crush in first grade. Did he break your nose just before or after you said that?"
"That's not one of my most glorious moments," Jordan whines. "How cruel of you to remind me of that."
I laugh, trying not to look at him too fondly. What Jordan doesn't know is that following this incident, I had decided to teach Nathan a good lesson. Let's just say the asshole learned not to mess with a shifter's friend. I never told Jordan though, because I'm pretty sure if he knew at the time that I was so strong, he would have acted even more reckless. I have always kept a low profile since then, not wanting to spend my days saving his ass.
The training session goes smoothly, as I gradually forget about my own problems (mainly, my thesis about the French writer Bernard-Marie Koltès' work) and just focus on doing the moves with as much precision as I can muster. I have a black belt in judo, meaning that most of the time I have to correct others on their posture but I don't really mind. Although I'm not particular in my everyday life, I love judo and I think learning to fail and to fall is at the core of this sport.
