Chapter 5: We're Not Alone

The group of 6 hadn't been walking for long. Clarke trailed far ahead while the rest took in the sight around them. Finn picked a flower and put it behind Octavia's ear causing her to start blushing

"Now that my friend, is game" Jasper pointed "that my friend, is cringy" Sawyer said making Jasper laugh as "that, my friend is Poison Sumac" Monty corrected "What! it is?" Octavia instantly swatted the flower out from behind her ear 

"The flowers aren't poisonous, they're medicinal, calming actually" 

"Careful Mont, your nerd is coming out" Sawyer teased 

"His family grows all the pharmaceuticals on the ark" Jasper explained as Sawyer watched her step 

"Hey guys would you try to keep up?"Clarke asked annoyed "Come on Clarke, how do you block this all out?" Sawyer asked as she picked a flower from a bush placing it behind her ear

"Well its simple, I wonder why haven't we seen any animals. Maybe its because there are none. Maybe we've already been exposed to enough radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty though"

"Someone should slip her some poison sumac" Octavia joked causing the group to laugh as they started walking again. "I got to know what you 2 did to get busted"  Sawyer asked looking to the boys

"Sumac is not the only herb in the garden, if you know what I mean" Monty started "Someone forgot to replace what we took" Jasper said "Someone has apologized like 1,000 times" Monty argues 

"How about you Octavia? What's they get you for?" Monty asked, Sawyer instantly stopped knowing the answer. "Being born" and with that Octavia took off. Blocking out the boys she saw them hitting each other before she walked up to the rest of the group that crouched behind a bush

They sat couple feet ahead to watch an animal

Sawyer glanced in shock at how beautiful the creature looked

"No animals huh?" Finn said walking ahead before he stepped on a twig causing a noise. The creature's head shot to the side and Sawyer let out a scream as she saw the animal with 2 heads and bloody flesh in between

"Hey, you know what i'd like to know" Finn said breaking the silence between the group. Sawyer hopped down the hill. "Why send us down today after 97 years? What changed?" Finn continued 

"Who cares? I'm just glad they did. I woke up rotting in a cell and now im spinning in a forest" Octavia spun around a tree clearly just trying to get Finn's attention but failed when he simply just walked past her. "Maybe they found something on a satellite, you know like an old weather satellite or-" Monty was cut off by Clarke

"It wasn't a satellite. The ark is dying" 

Everyone instantly stopped and turned towards Clarke. "At the current population level, there's roughly 3 months left of life support. Maybe 4 now that we're gone"

"So that was the secret they locked you up to keep, why they kept you in solitary. Floated your old man?" 

Finn walked up closer to Clarke while everyone else kept the same pace. "My father was the engineer who discovered the flaw" Sawyer cut in "Wait, if your Dad was an engineer that means he knew my Dad" 

Clarke kept explaining "He thought the people had a right to know. The council disagreed. My mother disagreed. They were afraid it would cause a panic, we were gonna go public anyway, when Wells-" 

"What, turned your in your Dad?" Monty asked 

Clarke ignored him as well and continued "Anyway, the guard showed up before we could. That's why today, that's why it was worth the risk. Even if we all die, at least they bought themselves more time"
