Chapter 8: Grief

"Peta, hey Pea wake up" Sawyer was lightly shaking the tiny girl awake. Bellamy was putting on his jacket to see if the fog was cleared and Charlotte had been putting on her sweater

"Is the fog cleared?" she asked rubbing her eyes "Not sure i'm gonna check" Bellamy responded before walking down to exit the cave, Charlotte following him

Sawyer helped Peta stand and put on her boots

"It's all clear" Bellamy said coming back into the cave Charlotte's hand in his. Sawyer nodded and grabbed Peta's hand as they exited all together

"Anybody out here!" Bellamy yelled looking around "Jones?" he questioned

"We're over here!" the boy yelled coming up the hill 2 teens behind him

"Lost you in the stew where'd you go?" Bellamy said walking down. "Behind the beef" Peta responded low enough for only the girls to hear, they laughed causing Bellamy to look at them confused

"Made it to a cave down there" Jones responded causing their attention to be brought back. "What the hell was that?" Bellamy asked "I don't know"

"Wait, wheres Atom?" Sawyer asked realizing he was the last one not accounted for. "I don't know he followed you guys" one of the teens brought up. Sawyer and Bellamy instantly looked at each other shocked

"Spread out! Find him" Sawyer instructed. The boys nodded and everyone took off "Charlotte stay with Bellamy" Sawyer said touching Charlotte's shoulder the girl nodded, grabbing Peta's hand as they took off

"Do you think he's ok?" Peta asked as the 2 passed another tree. "Not sure-" Sawyer's sentence was cut off by a scream. "Char!" Peta yelled as the 2 took off heading in the direction of the girl's scream

Sawyer pushed a branch out of her way running ahead of Peta to find Charlotte standing in front of Atom's body. Gasping she pulled the girl into her arms covering her eyes

"Son of a bitch, Atom" Bellamy says passing the girls and walking to Atom, he dropped down next to him. Sawyer looked and saw burns and blood covering his body

She released Charlotte and pushed her back before walking towards Atom. She dropped down on his other side. Sawyer looked up to see Bellamy his eyes staring straight down at Atom speechless

She looked back up to see Peta and Charlotte holding each other staring at the scene. A mumble came from Atom causing her head to snap back. His eyes were covered white meaning he couldn't see

"Kill me... kill me.." the boy begged his chest rising up and down. "I can't breathe" he cried again. By now the rest of the group had come running and seen Atom Charlotte walked forward releasing Peta, Bellamy stood up to her. Charlotte slid the knife into Bellamy's hand before saying "Don't be afraid"

Sawyer looked at the girl shocked at her courage "Go back to camp" Bellamy instructed to the guys "Charlotte, Peta you too" Peta looked to Sawyer as if asking what to do. Sawyer nodded and Peta took that as an answer before grabbing Charlotte's hand and walking off slowly

Bellamy bent back down knife in hand. Clarke came bursting out of the bushes causing both their heads to shoot up at the blonde. She looked down shocked at Atom "I heard screams" she said breathing heavy

"Charlotte found him, I sent her back to camp" Bellamy explained. "Clarke go please, just make sure they get back" Sawyer begged as she stared at Atom thinking of a way to fix this. Clarke nodded and stood up running off into the woods

Bellamy looked to Sawyer, shaking her head before whispering "I'm sorry but he's too far along" Bellamy nodded and Sawyer took a big deep breath before looking back to Atom
