Chapter 38: Family Dinner

~Grant~

I knocked on the washroom door. "Ollie, would you hurry your fine ass up?! We have to get going and I still need to use it to get ready!"

"You can use the washroom when I'm in here!" Ollie called over the sound of the shower running. Why did he have to shower at the last minute? We were probably going to show up to my mom's house late now because of him.

I really did have to get ready so I opened the washroom door, closing it behind me before walking to the mirror. "You better finish soon," I said. "I don't want to show up late. I'm finally seeing my whole family on my mom's side after my return to Spruceworth."

"We have time," Ollie said, turning off the shower and opening the curtain. "Can you pass me the towel on the rack?"

"I would but I'm very attracted to you right now," I said.

Ollie glared at me so I reached for the towel and tossed it to him. He wrapped it around his waist and walked to the counter I was right, grabbing the hairdryer from the cupboard underneath the sink.

"What if my mom says no?" I asked.

Ollie furrowed his eyebrows. "Says no about what?"

"Me getting married," I said. "I haven't made the effort to visit her at all. The only time I saw her after my return was when I was in the hospital after I fainted at work. Oh, and I did see for only for a few minutes at Christmas. Besides that... I didn't make any effort. She might be mad."

"Well, she invited you over for dinner so I assume she's not mad at you," Ollie said. "And even if she does say no, that's fine. We don't have to get married at eighteen just because we're engaged. We could take as long as we want."

"Yeah, but... It's not just about whether we wait or not. If she says no to me getting married to the guy I love, it's like... I don't know. It will hurt. A lot."

"I'm sure she's not going to say no," Ollie said.

       "You can't be too certain..."

Ollie gave me a sympathetic smile then kissed my cheek before we started getting ready to head to my mom's house for dinner. I couldn't help but feel worried about what my mom would say to my engagement to Ollie. I knew Ollie was right; that we could get married at nineteen if we had to.

That wouldn't stop me from feeling extremely hurt if my mom said no. It would be like she didn't care about me at all. That my happiness didn't matter.

When Ollie and I were both ready to leave, we left the house to head to my mom's home. I was feeling extremely nervous going there. Ollie and I weren't the only ones going. Mom wanted a huge family dinner with all of my brothers. I wasn't even planning on bringing Ollie but I didn't think I could face them alone so I asked if he could come along. Thankfully, she was okay with it.

I thought most of them were going to be mad at me for not visiting often but that wasn't the case. As soon as Ollie and I walked in, Castiel said, "Uncle Grant!" before rushing over to me and giving me a tight hug. Mercedes and Lucian followed, hugging me as well.

"We missed you!" Lucian said. "How come you haven't visited us?"

"I've just... been going through something," I said.

"Are you better now?" Castiel asked.

       "Yeah, a bit," I said.

Gibson was the next to rush over but he was more focused on Ollie than on me. "Unc Ollie!" he said, holding his arms out. "Up!"
