CHAPTER 3 - Aaron [by Safiah]
The scene at his feet was disgusting. He couldn’t place it as the doing of a sane person. Or even a person. It’s becoming too much to bear so he walked out the kitchen door to the back lane. Even though the back lane was flimsy and has a wrenched smell, it’s still a lot better than the previous scene he just looked at.
Aaron had been a police for only 5 years, but he had been a detective’s son for almost 28 years. He had looked at hundreds of gruesome criminal scene, but never in his life he had been so sick at the mere thought of a scene. The body was split open in the thoracic cavity, the heart missing. It was ghostly white, as befitting because all its blood were on the floor, creating a nice splashing effect around its body. It was a work of art really, if that someone has a very twisted, sadistic style of appreciation towards art.
For him, it just made him sick. It reminded him of his own father’s death too much. Although that already happened 4 years ago, he could still picture it clearly in his mind. He nearly lost his composure at the sight of his father’s body, covered in blood, his body split open and the heart missing. He had to take extra measures just to make sure his mother didn’t know that particular detail. She would die from the shock. Just hearing the news of his death made her wail and cry for days, even after the funeral. It broke his heart seeing his mother like that, but it broke his heart more when after 4 years, the case was still unsolved. And now, it’s like everything happened once again, just with different body, different victim.
He wondered how he would tell the family of this particular victim. He debated within himself how far he should let them know. But they were his family, they deserved to know. But he also dreaded the reaction he’ll get. It must be the same one given by his mother before. And he also knew how they would feel once they saw the condition of his body. If they ever knew the condition of his body.
And the answer came a week after that.“ Sir, the deceased is Phillip Montague. And apart from his connection to Fiorent, he didn’t seem to have any other worldly relationship with anyone else. At least not on permanent basis”
“So no family?” the thought gave his huge relief. The state would deal with the corpse and no one would be disheartened.
The only thing that was bothering him now were solving this case. He had a feeling that this two cases were related, were done by the same person and he was desperate to solve this cases. He wanted to put all this behind him once and for all. It’s been haunting him day and night. He felt restless and afraid. When his father’s case went cold, he was sad because he felt like he failed his dad. He felt as if he had failed as a son and a police.
But now, with the emergence of this new case, it showed that it was a serial murder. It proved that his father’s killer was not satisfied. He came back for more. Aaron feared his thirst in murder had not been quenched. He will kill again. More and more. And that scared him. He vowed to bring that murderer to justice, so that he won’t kill again. So that no family had to ever feel what he and his mother felt. It’s cruel. It’s unjust. It’s plain evil.
