13 Chapter

We ended up under Merleona's guidance. The whole squad had literally worked off their socks over the intensive training the woman had given.

I was happy--despite having been the weakest of physique but was blessed with strong magic power. Because of that, I've been scolded by her quite a lot. Even had a spanking at that matter.

"Stupid brat! What have your body been training on? A piece of grain?!" She asked me mockingly.

"I'm sorry ma'am! I've been focused too much on my magic manipulation that I didn't worked out!" I bowed apologetically.

"No excuses you little brat. I don't care if you're a noble or royalty. By the way, what noble family are you from?" She asked.

"I uhh..." I looked down awkwardly. "I'm from Hage village, ma'am. I grew up in a church with my brother." I replied.

"Not a noble?" She raised an eyebrow. She grabbed my hand, suddenly raising up my sleeve from my arm and looked at my arm. "Was I imagining things? Why does it feel like you have a noble affiliation?" She asked something I didn't hear.

"Oh I'm sorry ma'am, I didn't hear you." I said quickly.

"You better not be lying to me, brat." Merleona gave me a warning look and I nodded as soon I saw how scary it looked. "Good." She let my arm go as soon as I felt even more flustered. "Continue your body strengthening. I can't afford to have a soft bone in my squad." She said.

"Y-yes ma'am!" I went back to join my mentor on whatever he's doing.But I noticed that the nobles who bullied me that time weren't here. "Sir Leo, you know how to strengthen your body?" I asked upon seeing him doing push ups.

He stopped for a while. Grunted a sigh as he sat up and tapped the dirt off his hands. "Take it easy little one. Where do you want to start?" He asked.

I looked around my body and thoughtfully gave an inspection. "My arm... I guess." I said realizing Merleona was looking at my arm.

"And how do you intend to?" He asked again.

"I uh..." I placed a hand on my chin hearing someone faintly squealed the words 'cute!' Before I remembered my brother Asta. "Swing something heavy! Like a sword, cutting boulders and trees... like that!" I said.

"And... where will you get the sword?" Leo raised an eyebrow.

"From my brother!" I replied smartly.

"You think you can handle his sword?"

"Probably?"

"What are you two brats blabbering about?! Get back to training!"

The two of us jumped from surprise after hearing Merleona's demand. "I uhh... run! Lapse!" I shouted and began to sped off.

"I too!" I heard Leo said back and before I knew it, the group are already running  side by side with us. "She's gonna work us out to the bone. It's better to ditch her." Leo whispered.

"But won't she be mad?" I asked back.

"She will. But not that much." He replied, pulling my wrist as he doubled his speed. "Let's get away while she's off guard." He said.

"Ehhh? Sir Leo, it's my first time ditching! I'm  nervous!" I said with all honesty.

"Don't worry. I got you." He replied, giving a quick look and gave a smile of reassurance. I didn't have a choice but follow. After all, he's my mentor. He grabbed me by the wrist and gave a chuckle. "Let's train on our own if you're more comfortable." He added.

I nodded as we got farther into the training site of Merleona getting ourselves separated from the other crimson lion members into the woods. I can feel my legs ready to give up that moment, but the more I felt sore, the faster we ran into the grass. "Sir... I'm tired!" I informed in complaint.

"Don't worry little one. Just a little more and we're almost there." Leo replied.

I kept quiet after that. Conserving my energy to get through this sprint and have some rest on my supposed day off.

We stopped after reaching the end of the woods. We were welcomed by the sight of the vast field close to the exit border of the clover kingdom. The breeze was helping me cool down when I sat on the grassy ground and catch up with my breath that almost ran out.

"You good little one?" Leo asked.

I nodded. Still conserving my energy to easy my tired body. I held my chest and felt my heart throbbing so strong that it drummed through my ribs almost wanting to escape.

God I'm sooo tired.

My mentor sat beside me. I looked at him for a moment and noticed him bringing something out under his cloak. "Here." He brought out a satchel of what i assumed to be water. Thankful that he actually thought of it, I politely took his offer, opened the content and drank thirstily but soon just rejected the drink when I tasted it.

"Is this poison?!" I asked surprised.

Leo laughed. Tapped my back and then petted my head. "That's a healthy drink!" He informed.

I looked at the green liquid I spit earlier and frowned. "It tasted familiar. But I have no idea how..." I muttered with a frown.

"That must be because Asta taught me how to do it!" He replied.

So that was why. "I'm really not a fan of my brother's tastebuds and digestive system. I can't compare myself to how immune he is to wierd stuff he intakes." I explained.

"Don't feel bad, little one! You don't have to earn muscles! Guys only does so don't follow along my sister Merleona's example. She's cruel and scary!"

I looked up at him and frowned. "But I admire her! She's so strong and proud. I want to be like her someday!" I protested.

Leo paled the moment he heard me. He seriously grabbed both my shoulder. "Little one. Don't. You're great the way you are. Of you follow my sister's example, you'll turn onto a demon. High tempered, ill mannered, grave attitude and crazy woman. I wish for you the best, so please don't dream of becoming a second Merleona someday." He said. His solemn voice and serious face made me feel suddenly afraid of what will happen to me.

But still... "but still... I'm... so weak. People make fun of me so if only I could be as courageous and strong as Miss Merleona, no one will think lowly of me." I explained. "I also admire my brother because he's so strong."

"Do you really want to get muscles that badly?" Leo asked.

"Huh? No! Not that I want to or not, I just want to be as brave and respected. I love to be like strong people I met. Merleona, Asta, Yuno, the wizard king and you. I really admire all of you."

Leo stared at me. I stared back but soon looked down after feeling embarrassed from the long stare. And then his arrogant laugh came to life that made me surprised. "If you admire me that much, I will give you tips!" He said and caresses my head. "Be yourself and if you can't handle things on your own, I'll be there to guide you, little one." He grinned at me almost too wide that I can see his full teeth.

But his words made me give a pout. "I don't want to be such a damsel sir. I admire you strong people because you can protect a lot of people!" I replied.

"And you're one of us. So don't go getting any conclusion that you're not." He replied. "You're so humble, I don't know what to make out of it but you being so humble and shy is part of your cute personality."
