That following week, Caroline had decided she was going to ask her crush to homecoming. She knew she was cutting it close with only three days until homecoming but decided better now than never. Caroline was helping with homecoming decorations when she rounded the corner and saw Liz and Peter talking. Not being able to help herself, she listened in to their conversation.

"Hey." Peter said to Liz.

"Hey."

"I thought you had calculus fifth period."

"Yeah, I was just doing some homecoming stuff."

"Hey, look, I, uh... I just wanted to apologize about the whole Decathlon thing. I really-"

"It's fine. Last week, Decathlon was the most important thing, but then I almost died."

"No, I, I just mean that... it was not cool, especially... because... I like you." Peter said, mumbling the last part.

"I know."

"You do?"

"You're terrible at keeping secrets."

"Yeah, you'd be surprised."

"I got to get to class, but, um, I'd say we should hang out, but I'm gonna be in detention for...ever, but, um, I guess you already have a date to homecoming."

"Actually, I was so busy planning it I never really got around to that part."

"Uh, do you want to go with me?"

"Yeah. Sure."

"Really? I mean, uh, great. Cool."

Peter started walking away.

"Cool.."

"I'm actually going that way." Peter said, pointing the other way.

Caroline turned around and started walking to the bathroom.

'Of course he likes Liz. Why'd you think he would want to go to homecoming with you?'

Caroline let a few tears fall down her cheek. When she got into the bathroom, she grabbed ahold of the sink and looked in the mirror at herself. She gave herself a minute to calm down and went to class.

After school, Harry walked up to Caroline's locker as she was grabbing stuff out.

"So did you ask him?" He said with a smile.

"No." Caroline grumbled.

"What? Why not? I thought you were going to do it today?"

Caroline slammed her locker door.

"Well that was before I watched him ask another girl out."

"Seriously?"

"I mean, I should've known he wouldn't want to go with me. He always talks about this other girl and they were talking in the hallway and it came up and he asked and of course she said yes."

"Hey, hey. It's okay, just calm down. He's blind if he would rather go with another girl. That's why you have to go and show him what he missed out on."

"You're talking like he rejected me. I didn't even ask him."

"Yeah well, you're still going to go and have a great time. Who was it anyway?"

"It doesn't matter."

"It does if it's made you this upset."

"Fine but you can't tell anyone. I mean it. This stays between us and you will not have a grudge or anything against the guy."

"Fine."

"It was Peter."

"Seriously? And he asked Liz out didn't he?"

Caroline shook her head.

"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. And you're going to go, even if I have to drag you out of your apartment."

"Alright. I'll go."

"Great."
