[ sorry ]
Here's the thing: That morning whenever Wallace woke up, the last thing he wanted to do was go to Bella's house. He couldn't name the emotion he had felt upon opening his eyes, knowing that he had promised the brunette and that he had wanted to break said promise.
Yet, Wallace still found himself getting up from bed. Placing on a pair of jeans and a loose pinkish T-shirt that had once been white and headed into the living room. Shelby, of course, was missing for the day. Having been working weekends for as long as Wallace could remember.
Making his way into the kitchen, Wallace grabbed the carton of milk from the fridge. Unscrewing the lid and taking a long drink of the contents inside. Once he was finished, he leant against the counter nearby, hand still gripping the handle of the milk carton with a few fingers.
Screwing on the lid and putting the milk back into the fridge, Wallace moved towards the front door. Grabbing his house keys and shoving it in the pocket of his jeans before moving out of the house. The bike that he'd left in the front yard was still there, resting on it's side, as Wallace hiked it up so he could straddle the seat.
Peddling towards the Swan house, Wallace spotted Chief Swan's cruiser in the driveway. That was almost enough for Wallace to peddle back towards his house entirely if Bella hadn't been in the driveway as well. The brunette meeting Wallace's eyes as she closed the door to her truck, a jacket loosely held in her hand.
Bella's smile nearly blinded Wallace, and she stepped clumsily forwards. "You came,"
"I said I would," Wallace stated, peddling towards the edge of the Swan's driveway and placing his bike on the yard once more. Ignoring how a voice in the back of his mind reminded him just how close he had been to standing Bella up this morning.
"Come inside. Dad is making breakfast for us," Bella stated, motioning him forwards with a hand and leading him up the stairs towards her front door. Wallace followed slowly behind, hand trailing up the cold railing of the stairs and trying to keep his face neutral.
Unlike what he had been expecting, the Swan house was perfectly calm. Almost too calm if Wallace's hunch was anything to go by. Yet, Bella closed the door behind them easily, sliding off her sneakers and leading Wallace into the kitchen.
Like Bella had said, Chief Swan was at the stove. Spatula cutting eggs together as his tall frame bent slightly to work on the eggs. At the kitchen table, in the side of the room, was Alice Cullen. Whom of which was sipping on a mug of something, form as perfect as a debutante. Both Chief Swan and Alice noticed his arrival right away.
"Wallace," Alice spoke, and it was as if she had expected him. Her golden eyes tracking him in the doorway of the kitchen for a few moments before they locked on Bella, who sat beside her.
Chief Swan, however, looked less enthused. "Wallace, anything I can help you with?"
"No dad," Bella interjected, pushing a strand of dark hair behind her ear. "Wallace is here to eat breakfast. I invited him over yesterday."
Chief Swan tensed for a moment, addressing his daughter, "You didn't tell me anyone besides Alice was here yesterday,"
"That's because I knew you'd get weird," Bella commented, then to soothe her words, she gave Chief Swan a tiny smile. "Can he stay for breakfast without receiving the third degree?"
A moment passed, then Alice was speaking. "Wallace was very helpful with my luggage yesterday, Charlie. A true gentleman,"
The lie made it's way out of Alice's throat easily. Earning both Wallace and Bella's confused glances at the side of her face. However, Alice ignored them both, smiling insistantly at Charlie who softened minisculely.
