mental illnesses:
here you have DID, which fun fact the author did very little research on. and i mentally couldn't get passed the first couple of chapters.
here you have the ever so present depression that's not accurately portrayed. and i would know considering ive suffered with chronic depression since i was diagnosed 7 years ago. depression, in my case, never goes away fully or at all. research is key, as ive said many times before.
the ever so used anxiety. you know, anxiety is really easy to get information on - especially now that it's pretty widespread in our generation. but it still baffles me that people use this as a crutch in their stories to make their characters "different and quirky." my sister does not find her anxiety cute, in fact she'd tell you the worst thing she's ever went through is an anxiety attack where she didn't know the reason it happened.
the woe is me and self-hatred:
if you genuinely feel like this, go talk to a therapist because it's not at all healthy. but in this instance the character is comparing herself to another girl but somehow made it seem like a dig at the other female at the same time? so she not only tore herself down but in the process the other girl to... at least that's how it came across to me. but im all about self-love, and seeing women tear themselves down really makes my heart hurt.
the ole emo bullshit. where it's never just the characters fault, but the worlds and everyone in it. where the character can't figure out that they're their own worst enemy and that they're the problem. i can't stand this shit. i actually know people irl like this!
abusive ex's and s/o's:
the abusive ex that comes back halfway into the story after being dropped in the first chapter. and they're not just back to ruin the characters life, but kidnap and kill them - because you need that highly unlikely drama factor because you lost the plot of your own story as you're fucking scrambling to make the shit interesting again. now don't get it twisted, there are abusive crazy people out there who are all about, "if i can't have you no one can," but id just like to read a story where abusive isn't the main driving point of the story.
