Chapter 6- Complicated Feelings Part 1; Shane's POV

I dropped Arianna at the house and kissed her and her mother goodbye before going to the place where I know I would go if I were mad knowing I would find Colton there.

I go to the edge of the pier dock as I spot Colton sitting down against the railing, flipping a coin on his knuckles.

"Hey." I say to him and he jerks his head up in response.

"Hey." He says and motions for me to sit down.

"So listen I know this is a lot to handle right now-----.."  I begin before he cuts me off with a sharp laugh.

"You don't know shit dad. Where were you when mom was crying because she couldn't pay for the bills alone? Where were you when my SISTER had to get 3 jobs during the school year to pay for food? Where were you this entire time?!" He shouts at me and tears stream down his face.

I grab his shoulders and pull him into a hug and he wraps his arms around my torso tightly.

"Where were you?" He whispers softly.

"I was right here son. I walked past your school and saw you everyday but never thought twice of it. Occasionally I would see the similarities in us but never question it. I didn't know you needed me, because I didn't know you existed." I say softly to him and he tightens his grip around me.

"I took Arianna out for dinner she's back at home worried sick about you. So is Sam." I say and he nods before pulling away.

"I know I have frequent anger issues. I often storm out and it drives them crazy." He says and I nod.

"I had anger issues like you wouldn't believe." I mumble and he laughs.

"Now I know where I get it from." He says softly and we both laugh.

"So your sister explained classes and athletics but what about a girlfriend?" I ask and he laughs softly before...

"I have a boyfriend actually dad."

Complicated Feelings Part 2; Colton's POV

He stares at me with a look and I instantly feel ashamed to have said it that way but I'm cut off from apologizing with a string of profanities when he smiles.

"My son, I'm happy for you." He says and I smile as more tears stream down my face.

"Let me guess Trey?" He asks and I nod.

"Dating since the beginning of summer after we left 8th grade." I say and he laughs.

"That's a long time." He says and I laugh too.

"It is but he's worth it." I say with a smile thinking of our fond memories.

"Does your mother or sister know?" He asks and I shake my head.

"Mom should know but I haven't found a way to tell her. But I think her and Ari suspect if not already know." I say and laugh at how Ari always seems to know things.

"Your mother was like that. She knew things sometimes before I even knew them myself." He replies and laughs.

"So do you have a new girlfriend since breaking up with mom?" I ask him and he looks a little taken aback.

"No I haven't dated anyone in 15 years since your mom..." He says running a hand through his hair nervously.

"No strippers? No club girls?" I ask genuinely surprised and he laughs softly.

"No no girl since your mom just lots of work and some alcohol." He answers and I nod.

Later after sunset he drives behind me as I ride the motorcycle back home. We stop on the front porch when Ari and mom run out of the house. Ari runs up and jumps on my back and starts pulling my hair.

"Ow Ari what the fuck?" I scream before getting a glare from both mom and dad.

"Sorry mom sorry dad. What the hell, you airhead?" I scream and hear laughter from the parents behind us.

"Don't run off like that again especially agitated you know I worry about you, asshole." She complains and I nod and set her down and kiss her cheek.

"I promise I'll try to control it more, sweetheart." I say to her and she nods and hugs me.

"Are we going to ignore the fact that Arianna and Colton called you dad?" Mom says to Shane and he laughs and she rolls her eyes.

"Well biologically he is mom." I say and she sticks her tongue at me and I wink at her.

"Can't argue with knowledge, babe." Shane says to mom and she rolls her eyes and smiles at him.

Maybe everything will be alright finally. Maybe things will work out between them.

Maybe we can have a father...
