I, Darnel Macaw, was finally allowed to go home. I was suspected of breaking and stealing stuff at my school.

They told my family about me being interrogated, so I was glad that they at least told my family where I was.

After some days of looking for evidence and interrogating me, they finally realised I was innocent and I was allowed to return home.

I was happy that I could finally see my family again. I sadly have no friends, since I have a weak presence.

My father is a well-known hunter in the village, my mother a normal housewife, and I had an energetic little sister.

But then there is my adoptive brother Avaritia.
He never let anyone into his room, which is normal for people not wanting to let people disturb their privacy, but he looked very desperate when he asked us to never enter his room, which he always made sure to lock.

He does things I don't understand, like running around crying about his 'lost treasures' and sometimes it feels like he doesn't think at all. Honestly, sometimes I think that we've adopted an animal.
And-

My train of thoughts was interrupted when I saw the state of the village.
It felt kind of strange.
The villagers looked very depressed and some were building a statue.
The statue had the looks of a strange creature with horns that I couldn't really recognize.

"What happened?"

I asked. But nobody answered.
My weak presence is a problem.

"WHAT HAPPENED!?"

I yelled, hoping someone would notice me now.

And it worked, because soon all the villagers turned to me, with expressions of hope.

"It's Darnel!"

"Darnel came back!"

It was odd, because normally they wouldn't be that excited about me returning.

Something must have happened.

"What happened?"

"Darnel, you have to save us!"

Save them? I don't know what they-

"Gather around, slaves! It's time to celebrate the growth of my underling's horns!"

I hear a frightening voice which was very familiar to me...

"Darnel, while you were gone, these monsters have taken over our village.
Even the village chief is powerless."

I froze after a villager whispered that to me.

So those two creatures that demolished my school, also want to demolish my home?!

My blood began to boil... I clench my fists in anger.

And as I was about to shoot my lightning magic,

"Wait, Darnel. We are as devastated as you are. Don't underestimate their power."

I was stopped by the village chief, who had a grim expression.

"But shouldn't dad have already defeated those two?"

My dad was known to be one of the strongest hunters out there after all.

"Darnel... Your father is...well..."
The village chief avoided to look me in the eye.

My heart skipped a beat, after I heard that.

"No...this can't be... he's..."

The village chief nodded, as if confirming my thoughts.

"N-No way..."
I lost all my strength and collapsed on my knees, tears flowing out of my eyes.

"Alright! Now continue your work!"

The monster ordered loudly, before entering a house.
My house.

"Chief, what is the meaning of this?!"
It just casually entered my house!

"W-We couldn't stop it..."

No way... Then mom and Daisy are...

"Those two are still alive."
As if reading my thoughts, the village chief told me that.

"That's good..."
Relief came over me.
But then... Avaritia!

"Avaritia! What about Avaritia?!"
Where is he?!

"We don't know. But the last time we saw him, he said he would make a thief pay that was stealing our things."

"So then... Avaritia...."
Avaritia went out at night, and got finished by the monsters...
That's the only explanation.

"You should go to the rest of your family."
The village chief said while trying to comfort my crying self.

"Darnel!"
I hear mom's cry as she runs to me.

"Darnel, I'm so glad your still okay!"
Mom said, hugging me while trembling.

Daisy was also trembling next to mom.

These events were all too much.
