Going back to school was probably harder than being kidnapped from it. However, thanks to my very friendless self, no one except Stephanie seemed to have noticed my absence nor cared enough to ask about it. It was a bit disappointing, actually. I would have loved to come up with a story of how I saved the world or something like that.

Instead, my entrance back into the halls started with tripping over the steps, forgetting the classrooms, and falling asleep. In the middle of the hallway.

And that was were Steph found me, leaning against a locker, not at all snoring.

"Sam?!" She exclaimed, and I startled from my dream about penguins. My hand lashed out at the surprise and hit the locker, causing me to stumble back in the confusion, and tripping myself to the floor. Of course, I did all of that with utmost gracefulness, rubbing my now sore buttom as I did a grimace.

"SAMANTHA!" She yelled again and pulled me off of the floor with her abnormally strong arms. Her embrace squeezed the air from my lungs, and I choked a little.

She let me go and smiled big at me. Still catching my breath, I did a little thumbs up at her, managing a weak smile.

Then, it seemed she got over her initial happiness at seeing me, and a serious expression took over her face. "Where have you been! You left me alone at this place filled with idiots, how could you!" Just as she said that, a boy walked by and scowled at her. She showed him her teeth and jerked forward threateningly, making him flinch away. His eyes widened at the strange display of animalness, and he hurried away, casting some concerned and fearful glances back.

I almost chuckled, but Steph's attention had returned to me, so I tried to keep up a sober facade. I shrugged, answering, "Meh, I was just kidnapped."

For a moment, Stephanie actually looked like she believed me. Then rationality came back to her and she laughed. It sounded like a mix between a grunt, and amused laughter. "Yeah," she grinned, then got serious again, "No."

"No," I started, "Yes."

Stephanie frowned and retaliated, "Yes. No."

"No, No?"

"Yes, yes."

"So you do agree!" I triumphed.

Stephanie crossed her arms and stomped her foot in anger. "SAM!" She demanded.

"I'm serious!" I said, persistent. "A couple of guys drove a broccoli-infected van, then chased me. And you know how I hate running!"

"You do hate it," she admitted, though reluctant.

I nodded eagerly. "Apparently, they were a gang who wanted to expand their control and-"

Steph interrupted me, "And kidnapping you were supposed to do that?"

I shrugged. "I'm confused too."

She shook her head, unconvinced, but not in the mood to fight about it. "You know what? I'm just glad you're back."

I grinned at her, joining her by the arm. "Of course you are." We started walking away from the classrooms, arm in arm. "Now tell me, has math been canceled?"

"Samantha Snow," the principal called, reading my name off the graduation letter. I stood up proudly, making my way towards the podium in which he was standing on.

Forgetting my absence and erasing it from the record hadn't been that hard. Dad had sneakily bribed the people in charge, and given them a reminder of who he was. After that, getting straight A's hadn't been hard, and now I was finally graduating high school, after another year of torture.
