I was escorted back to my room by a girl. As I reached the room, I thanked her. Just as she was leaving I called out to her. "Hey, what's your name?" She turned around with a smile. "I'm Merida, and you?" I grinned sheepishly. "I'm Hayden. Thanks for leading me back. If not for you, I would have gotten lost. This place is like a maze. "Your welcome.. Hayden." The way she pronounced my name made me feel like melting. Why did she have to be so goddamn beautiful? She turned back and looked at me. "Won't you get inside?"

 It was only then I discovered I was still staring at her. My cheeks flushed a deep shade of red. "Oh, I'll be going in right now. I entered the room and I saw Felix talking with Leila. She was giggling and twirling her hair while he was strutting like a peacock. Wait, was he flirting with her? I pushed the thought aside and I walked towards them. "Guys, I'm going to see the other, um mercenaries." Felix turned and faced me. "OK, we'll catch up with you." I tensed a bit. "Aren't you guys going to join me?" Leila scowled at me. Men, whatever floats her boat? "We are busy. Felix was just telling me about his luxurious life in King Faginus's palace." It was my turn to scowl. "Since when did you care about.."

Felix rose to his feet and began to drag me towards the door. When we were out of the room and Leila's hearing scope, Felix finally spoke. "I'm falling for her and your screwing up my first impression. Well, that was blunt! I could not help but laugh. "First impression? What happened to the good, old Felix who tried as much as he could not to tell a lie?" I was dumbfounded. Without a word, Felix walked back to the room. I sighed. 

"It's Luxy's doing." I spun around to see Merida. "Who the hell is Luxy?", I asked. Queen of the underworld, wife to Mephistopheles." I recognized the name Mephistopheles. I remembered the cyclops I skewered saying it. "Did he, by any chance, have a cyclops assistant?" Merida laughed. Her laugh sounded sweet, like a lullaby. I snapped out of the trance. "You mean Boris, king of Cyclopes? Yes, he certainly did. As mercenaries, we were trained to fight against the forces of the underworld. Boris was a formidable force of pure and undiluted evil."

"Rumor says that he was killed by a teenage boy with enhanced werewolf abilities." She squinted at me. Then she gasped.  "You killed Boris didn't you?" I nodded. "Are you that good?" I shrugged. "By the way, what is Luxy doing to my friends? Merida sighed. "She's changing them to their opposite forms. I'm afraid the process is almost complete", she added sorrowfully. I frowned. "It all makes sense now." I remember Leila valuing her privacy and disdaining others by laughing at other people's nakedness but after my nightmare I woke to see her almost naked. Or the time Felix was unusually quiet in the woods, the night when I first shifted. And finally, now. 

"How come her spell could work from such a long distance?" Merida answered me: "Queen Luxy has been known to spread the scope of her power by using minions who are working with the dark forces or people who practice the dark arts. Something in me snapped and I suddenly became angry. "I'm going to annihilate Felix!" Before Merida could stop me I ran on top speed to the room. I kicked down the door and in a flash, Felix was pinned to the wall."How could you?", I asked him with hurt and betrayal evident in my voice. Felix looked very confused. "What did I do?" I growled. "You have the audacity to still feign innocence, even when you have been caught red handed?" Felix's face became serious."I tell you once again, I do not know what you mean. Cool of bro!" 

I became even more infuriated. If not him, then who. A sudden wave of realisation hit me and I dropped Felix just in time to evade an incoming dagger. I looked forward to see Leila holding two of her daggers. I gasped. "Leila, how could you?" I was perplexed and livid with rage. She laughed cynically. "Did you really think I was on your bloody side?" The first time I saw you I wanted to sink my fangs into you!" She flashed her pointy teeth at me. I cringed. "I thought wolves can only flash their teeth in wolf form." A wave of realization hit me. I suddenly began to panic. My instincts became jacked. "You vile creature! Your not a werewolf, your a deceitful vamp!" 

Leila's head began to jerk back and forth. Her skin became white,her bones began to rearrange and in a few seconds Queen Octavia stood before me. "Indeed, I am a vampire. Hello,
Hayden, it has been a while." My head was spinning. "But I saw you shift during the fight with Gynx." She laughed again, this one worse than the last. "That is one of the many perks you get from working with Mephistopheles. This wolf shape shifting strategy has helped my husband and I triumph over you worthless dogs." But,now you finally know who I am and what I am, prepare to meet your maker!" And then she charged.
