"I am sorry about your friend," the synthesised voice said, with a continued absence of emotion that didn't match the words.
Doonah did take notice of the choice of words.
"You said you were sorry. Do you know something?"
Another long pause.
"Kaylay can tell you."
"But I just came from the manager's place!" Doonah responded, exasperated.
"Did she help you?" the synthesized voice asked.
"No. She said there wasn't enough to go on to help."
Doonah heard the sound of tumblers and locks, and then the door opened just a crack. Instead of the synthesized voice, a hardened female-sounding one greeted her.
"And you won't get more unless I help. Come on in."
