Backround information: Peter is 3, Tony and Pepper are married, Peter is biologically Tony's and Mary Parker's but after Mary died Pepper and Tony adopted him, Tony is having Alcohol problems and is scared he's not a fit and good father. Peter isn't spider man. Yet.

Another morning in the tower. Pepper woke up at 7am on the dot to wake up and feed Peter. Pepper really loved Peter and even though he wasn't hers, she treated him like he was her own. Pepper picked up Peter, walked into the kitchen, and popped him in his high chair next to his aunt Nat. Pepper picked up the coffee Nat had made and started making breakfast for everybody. Pepper looked into the sink and shot Steve (who had just walked in) a worried glance as she turned her attention back to the 3 empty alcohol bottles in the sink. She made a mental note to talk to Tony later, he was asleep at his lab desk at this current moment.

"WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM! YOU HAVE A SON NOW! A THREE YEAR OLD! WAKE UP TONY AND SEE YOUR CHILD! HE LOOKS UP TO YOU AND YOU BARELY SAY A WORD TO HIM EVERY DAY! HE THINKS YOU DON'T LOVE HIM! THAT CHILD IS 3 AND HAS NIGHTMARES! AND DO YOU EVEN CARE? NO!
SHAME ON YOU ANTHONY EDWARD STARK!"
"Pep I-"

"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!"

"Pep. I'll take Peter into my lab today to help with the iron man suit. How about that?"

"Fine!" Pepper composed herself and stormed out, smirking at Natasha as they walked to the living room together. Pepper could tell that she had made an impact on Tony. She was more worried about what would happen in the lab.

Tony walked into Peter's room to find him playing with Lego's with Rhodey. Rhodey looked like he'd seen a ghost when Tony walked in.
"Hey Pete."
"Stark!!" Peter had a big smile on his face to see his dad even though his dad barely saw him.
"So I was thinking, how about you come to the la-"
Rhodey let out a small snort as he looked at Tony, obviously having heard Pepper's argument with him.
Tony tolled his eyes. "How about you come to the lab and look at my iron man suits and maybe even help me with one." Even though Tony was absolutely terrified about being a Father, he couldn't resist Peter's face when his eyes lit up.
"Yesyesyesssssssss" Peter jumped up and ran out his room, waiting for Tony to follow.

Rhodey gave a small nod of encouragement. Pepper didn't know but last night. Well.

———— flashback ————

"Rhodey. What is wrong with me. I chug alcohol every night and I barely sleep. That kid looks up to me more than anything and this is what I do with my life" "I want to be a good father. Peter is fucking adorable and so innocent but I'm scared. What if I turn out like. Like Howard."
Tony's face hardened as memories of his childhood came back. His father was work obsessed and never told Tony he loved him. His father drank and was never there for him. Tony was turning into Howard.
"Oh god I already AM Howard."

"Tony." Rhodey's face softened at the sight of a tear threatening to fall down Tony's face. "I can tell you will be an incredible father. Peter will love you no matter what. And if you get scared or need anything, me and the rest of the gang will always help you out. You just need to spend time with Peter instead of just shoving him away. Yeah?"

Tony did a few deep breaths. "Yeah."

———— Present time ————

Tony let out a small laugh at how much energy he had and grabbed Peter's hand as they walked to the elevator, picking up a box of 10 juice boxes for the fridge in the lab.

When they got to the lab, Peter dropped Tony's hand and stared around in awe. "Stark. 'Dis is so cool!"
"It is isn't it bud?"

Peter ran towards the iron man suit hanging from the ceiling.

"Woah woah!! Careful Peter! Slow down!" Tony jogged to Peter and managed to get to him before he tripped over Dum-E. "Careful bud. Slow down yeah?"
"Sorry. 'Dis is so cool 'doh"
Tony let out another laugh and he sat Peter awkwardly on his lap and began to work on his repulsers. It took about 3 seconds of Tony interacting with Peter for him to love his little boy.

"Hey Pete. Can you pass me that little screwdriver underneath the scissors?"
"Yea. Ow!!" Peter had got a cut on his hand. A wash of guilt ran over Tony. His little boy was hurt and it was his fault. Tony noticed the boy was tearing up.

"Aw Pete buddy I'm so sorry. Cmon let's get you cleaned up." Tony washed his hands quickly and picked peter up and carried him to the med bay. He sat Peter on a little table and rubbed an antibacterial wipe over his cut. "Let's get you a band-aid." Tony grabbed a box of avengers band- aids. "Which one do you want kid?" Tony pulled out a Captain America one and an iron man one. Peter picked up the Captain America one, stared at Tony and dropped it on the floor. Tony laughed, this child was definitely his. He placed the band-aid over his hand and grabbed him a juice box.

"What do you wanna do now Pete?" Tony was still really guilty after the little accident.
"Lablablab!" Peter was still cheerful and acting like it never happened. This made Tony relax a little. "Actually. I have a better idea."

Tony got one of his repulsers and put it on the very lowest it could be and took Peter to a padded room. He sat Peter on his lap and then sat on a chair with wheels. He shot a repulser at the wall and the chair shot around the room. Peter squealed with delight. "Againagainagain!!"
Tony laughed and the pair carried on for a while until Peter got tired.

Pepper walked down to their room and found Peter asleep on Tony's lap, Lego's surrounding the two. "What happened to his hand?" Pepper tip-goes over and whispered.
"Just a little accident in the lab but he's fine." Tony had a guilty look on his face but Pepper just rubbed Tony's shoulder and told him dinner was ready. "Can you bring it down?"
"Sure."

Pepper brought down a bowl of spaghetti and a plate of garlic bread. She was proud of how far Tony had come and it was obvious he felt guilty for neglecting a literal angel. Pepper loved her boys. More than anything.
