" Hello? " I answer the house phone as dad walks inside. He was out all night doing who knows what. I don't really mind, I mean, it's not like dad goes out all the time. I like having time to myself. And, he deserves a night out every once in a while. It has to be hard raising a daughter by yourself while taking care of a bunch of stuff.

" Hello. Is this Marcus Higgins residence? " A man asks.

" Yes. I'm his daughter. " I glance up at my dad. He rubs his forehead and I faintly smell alcohol and cheep perfume.

" May I speak with your father? "

" Sure. One moment please. " I stand up and hand the phone to dad. He messes up my hair a bit and smiles as he takes the phone.

" What's up? " He asks the man on the phone. I look at the TV as dad sighs. " Really? Yeah. Alright. I'll be there. Yes. Thank you. " Dad hangs up and sighs again.

" What's wrong dad? "

Dad sighs and sits down next to me. " My old basket ball teams coach, Coach Buzzer, died. "

" Oh. I'm sorry. "

" Well, we better get packing. " He stands up and pats my arm.

" Why? "

" We're going to be staying at a lake house my old friend rented. "

" Oh. " I smile a bit. " A lake house. That sounds cool. " I hurry and pack my bag before heading off the school.
