Running as fast as I could, I reached the end of the road. But I continued to run in darkness, stumbling over the fallen branches and dead leaves of the forest. I ran through the trees without looking back. It seemed like a nightmare, with no way out.

Low hanging branches hit my face, and bruised my arms but nothing could slow me down. I didn't know where I was heading to, but all I wanted right now was to get away from the place I had been to. I felt as though my last ounces of energy were about to get consumed too.

I came to a small hill, and I climbed up without looking around. The prevailing darkness foretold me about the late hour of night. The slippery fallen leaves made it almost impossible for me to climb up. But I couldn't fail right now. I had to run away, and I had to search for him.

The leftover smell of alcohol on my torn royal blue dress was still intoxicating my mind. I brushed back the loose strands of hair with the back of my hand, along with the sweat. The wet soil has entered my nails, and my palms were all muddy.

I kept climbing up without stopping to catch my breath.

At the top of the hill, I let go of my body. I felt my body rolling down on the cover of wet green leaves, with occasional broken branches bruising my back.

Despite all my hard work, the flute wasn't playing. The silence of the forest was not being broken by the music that I longed for.

I was exhausted. I let my heavy eyelids droop now, and allowed the peaceful sleep to set in.

I felt the touch of someone's fingers on my face, and a smile stretched on my dried lips.

"Adrian?"

He picked me up in his arms, and I felt the pain vanishing away. He walked through the forest, like it was nothing but a straight pavement. I tried to open my heavy eyes now and then, and saw the glimpses of the forest which was not so dark now.

The sun started to rise, and the spread of faint redness on the cool blue sky was so beautiful.

I felt Adrian placing me down at the edge of a river. The cold water tickled my feet softly.

"Adrian?"

I managed to whisper again.

He stroked my cheeks, "I'm here, Lily."

"Everything's alright, honey. Open your eyes." He spoke.

I opened my eyes, and there was a sudden gush of energy that entered my body from my feet and rushed at the speed of light to my brain.

The lost pieces of memory of last few hours returned back, making me gasp in horror.

"Where am I? What happened at the party?" I asked him.

Adrian was sitting on the rock at the edge of water, with a flute in his hand.

He didn't answer, so I shook his arm softly.

"Tell me, where am I?"

"Don't you recognize this river?" He spoke.

I looked at the limitless boundary of the blue River. I picked up few pebbles, and held them in my fist.

"Yes, I remember. It's the same River in which I almost drowned."

He nodded, and held the flute in front of his lips.

"Will you play that for me?" I asked anxiously.

He looked into my eyes with a spark of excitement. But he didn't play. He placed the flute near my wounded bare feet.
