Ch. 35

'Sorry, this is the smallest size of dress I could find...it still looks big on you' Sana watched me as I came out of the washroom wearing a clean set of clothes. I had dirt stains and a few tiny blood marks on my clothes after I got mugged.

'It's fine...they are nice and clean, thank you' I tried to tie my hair properly with the strain in my wrist, but only managed to pull off a messy bun. It didn't look the best but was still better than before.

'I better get going' I looked at the time as it was almost 5:30 in the evening. I told my parents that I'd be home by dinner time but decided to leave early to avoid running into Zain again.

'He asked me to call him when you're leaving' She said to me.

'Please don't...I think it's good for both of us to spend some time apart, it's hard for me to understand my emotions when I am around him. It's hard to explain how I am feeling right now, I feel like something cracked between us, and Zain thinks it nothing...but I feel it, whenever I want to reach out to him, I feel a gap between us and suddenly I want to run away from all this' I sighed.

'He is not going to leave you at any cost Maya, I have seen the way he is with you...nothing else matters to him as soon as he looks at you' She told me.

'That's what scares me...if he loves this much...imagine how much he would have hated me once...what if one day he starts to feel the same emotions of hatred towards me that he once felt after he lost his friend...what am I suppose to do then?' I asked her and she remained quiet. Like me, she also didn't know the answer to this question.

'I'll drop you home' She said to me and went to get her bag.

'Thank you for not telling Wasim Bhai about what happened' I told her as we walk towards the door. As soon as we opened the door, we saw Zain sitting in his car waiting. His eyes immediately shot up from his phone and he got out of the car. Did he wait for me outside all this time?

'Ready?' He looked at me carefully with his tired hooded eyes. I noticed a blood mark on the side of his jaw.

'Are you okay?' I looked at him.

'How long have you been waiting here for Zain?' Sana asked him with concern.

'I told you I'll come to pick you up' He narrowed his eyes at me.

'Let's go' I nodded and Zain eyes lit up with amusement. He thought he was going to have to argue with me to make me go with him but I felt bad for making him wait and also knew that he wasn't going to let me go with Sana so I saved us all time that eventually was going to lead to the same outcome.

'Call me once you reach home' Sana hugged me before going back inside her house. I walked to his car and he quickly got ahead to open the door for me.

'You shouldn't have waited for me' I went inside and watched a smile forming in his face as he walked around the car to get inside.

'Talk to me Maya' He said to me a while later when everything fell into complete silence between us.

'I don't have anything to say' I declared and sensed his body tensing beside me.

'Spend a day with me' He regarded suddenly.

'What is that going to do Zain?' I asked quietly.

'One day can change a lot of things, it took one day for you to lose trust in me...maybe tomorrow can bring back that trust' His reply left me out of words but also curious.

'How did you hurt? I changed the topic and pointed at the bruise on his face.

'I fell' He said knowing that I wasn't going to believe his answer.

'Of course, you did Zain' I rolled my eyes.

'There is something on the backseat' He referred to me smirking. I turned to check what it was and saw my bag.

'How did you find it?' I almost shouted in excitement as I reached for my bag and noticed that all my belongings were still there, safe and sound.

'Why so surprised?' His lips twitched with an amused, arrogant smile. He found my lost stuff, things that I thought I'll never see again.

'Zain...I...' I still couldn't understand how he managed to find those people and get my stuff back.

'They did that to you?' My heart sank when I saw his face again and my eyes shifted to the scar. He didn't reply.

'Everything is in it' I confirmed. As if the mugging never happened. As if he went back in time and fixed everything.

'Just like this?' I murmured to myself.

'Like this?' He gazes down at me at the stop sign.

'Thank you Zain' I smiled at him. No one had ever done anything like this for me or had gone to such extent to do something for me.

'Like this?' He asked again when he resumed driving.

'It feels like you turned back time' I admitted, knowing how silly I must have sounded but I wanted him to know how his words and actions affected me.

'I can stop time for you Maya' He said to me gently, calling my name so delightfully.

'Don't put yourself at risk for me Zain' I stared at him.

'No one can hurt you, not even me' He said seriously. I shivered at the thought.

'How's your hand?' He asked me instead with the intention of changing the topic.

'How's your wound?' I played back.

'Don't do this' He glared. I reached up to caress his face before I could stop myself.

'Thank you' I wanted to run away from him and here I was touching his face. How crazy was I? I was out to pull my hand away when his hand gently got a hold of my wrist.

'Spend a day with me tomorrow' He requested again.

'You said yourself that if I want I can turn back time then let me fix this' He insisted.

'Okay' I agreed even when I told myself to maintain a distance from him, struggling to find the right words but I swore every part of my being wanted nothing more than to go back in time when everything was fine between us.

'Am I that important to you?' I asked the question, deep down knowing the answer before he even responded. 

'You are mine and I am yours, Maya, we become one the day we wore these rings for each other' He held up my hand, showing me my engagement ring. His comment completely derailed me because I knew it was the truth. The day I wore his ring, my world and his collided and became one.
