Idk why, but when I saw the new design, I was like:
"But what if he wore a jacket . . . ?"
And that's how this moment came to be :3
He got the jacket when he was exploring – I mean, hiding out in Tom Wachowski's garage.
Basically, it was the retired cop's jacket that he used to wear back in his highschool days. When Sonic started wearing it, Tom was a little reluctant to let him keep it since it was a treasured item, but he eventually did end up letting Sonic wear it after hours and hours of pestering.
Lol he looks so precious.
The movie better not ruin his innocence! >:V
