Assassins' Strip Club
Chapter 38
Levi

"You don't seem very excited. Are you feeling okay, Ollie?" Hayden asks from his spot on the couch while I scribble in my notebook. I'm not actually writing anything, scribbling just gets my brain working.

"I'm shaking in my boots, I'm so excited," I say stoically, trying to focus on the mission.

"What a peach."

"Shut up, Hayden. I'm busy." I throw one of my pencil nubs at him.

He catches it and leaves the couch and climbs into the loveseat with me, leaning his head on my shoulder and falling asleep. I watch him for a while, leaving him be while I think.

Kenny.

To this day, I still remember bits and pieces of my childhood with him. He found me in the Underground, a place worse than even Sector 048-42. My mom was already dead when he found me and I was close to being on my way as well. He took me in, fed me, taught me how to be a dog. I would never call him a parental figure, but he is who raised me and made me who I am today.

Without him, I wouldn't be alive.

I guess it's only fitting that I'm the one who kills him.

"You brought a kid back to HQ with you. I'm surprised," a man with glasses says, talking to Kenny.

Kenny sighs. "He's my nephew. He won't be a problem. He's an Ackerman. He should be suitable for the heir, don't you think?"

The man looks me over and smiles, ruffling my hair. "I think he'll be perfect for them. What's his name?"

"Boy," Kenny says, "it's what he responds to."

"Kenny, he has a name. There's no way he doesn't."

The man named Kenny pulls out a book that Maman used to write in and flips through it. The man wearing the glasses looks over Kenny's shoulder.

"Rivaille?"

Kenny shakes his head. "No, Levi."

I perk up.

"Hello, Levi," Glasses waves, "my name is Grisha Jaeger, but you can call me Grisha."

"My König, you do not have to do that—"

I just continue sitting where I was instructed, slowly eating a piece of bread that Kenny gifted me before coming to see Grisha. Grisha seems nice, but Kenny lets me eat, so he's nice too.

Grisha walks over to me and crouches beside me. "Do you talk, Levi?"

Kenny shakes his head. "No, he's mute."

I blink.

"I think he's tired. Are you tired, Levi?" Grisha asks.

Looking at the ground, I nod once.

"Kenny—"

"Yes, my König." Kenny walks over and stands beside me.

I get up and follow closely beside him, shaking as soon as we go in the small box room.

Kenny quirks an eyebrow. "You don't need to be afraid of the elevator. It's not going to eat you."

My eyes linger on Kenny's hand. Maman used to hold my hand when I was scared and it always made me feel better. Kenny catches my gaze.
